Support Team Ministry
Creating Community through Caregiving Support Teams
“Support Teams provide practical, emotional, and spiritual support for people who need help with caregiving. ...Working together as a team, volunteers pool their talents, time, and
creativity, to offer much more support than one volunteer can provide alone.” - from Project Compassion’s website
Since the Care Team (now called Support Team) ministry was begun at the Chapel of the Cross in 2002, teams have ministered to people dealing with cancer, dementia, vision impairment, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, and other chronic or terminal conditions. Teams can also be formed to assist with short-term crisis conditions. This past year two teams were active, offering spiritual support, friendship, and practical assistance, thereby easing the burdens of the “care friends” and their families.
Support team members offer the services and talents they most enjoy giving in a flexible time frame that accommodates work, travel, and other responsibilities. Team members are given the opportunity to offer service that is greatly valued and appreciated by those they serve, and the relationships formed both with the care friend and among team members reflect the
best in loving, Christian community.
The support team ministry at the Chapel of the Cross is affiliated with Project Compassion of Chapel Hill in association with the Support Team Network, Birmingham, AL.
Members of the congregation who would like to join a support team or who know of persons who might need the support of a team should contact the Rev. Victoria Jamieson-Drake, Associate for Pastoral Ministry.
