Master Plan Steering Committee
Updated Concept Plans for Building Improvements – March 2009
The Vestry, at its meeting in November, 2008, unanimously approved the staged construction of the project A Light on the Hill: Building to Serve. Phase One includes building a spacious Fellowship Hall and creating an open-air Terrace facing the UNC Arboretum. When the planning and permitting process with the Town of Chapel Hill began, the entire project (in both phases) was included; continuing this process will be less expensive in time and money than starting over with Phase One only. Building the project in two phases will allow construction to begin at an earlier date and eliminate the cost and confusion of off-site space rental. Phase Two will be added as economic conditions improve. The Capital Campaign Committee affirms that it is committed to continued fund-raising until the completion of the entire project is reached.
The Updated Concept Plans and Elevation Drawings are the result of a seven-year planning process that began in 2002. Please note that these are not construction plans; they are concept drawings.
Large copies of the Concept Plans will be posted in the parish dining room on Easter Sunday and members of the Master Plan Steering Committee will be available to answer questions.
The Master Plan Steering Committee is eager to hear responses to this latest set of concept drawings and to respond to questions. Please contact committee members Martha Dill or Martha Schutz.
Committee Charge
The Master Plan Steering Committee was established to continue to develop the Master Plan concept which serves as the basis for
- continuing engagement with the parish,
- pursuing the regulatory processes required by the Town of Chapel Hill, and
- furthering the work of the Capital Giving Committee.
Earlier work of the committee and predecessors can be found here.
The Master Plan concept was presented to the parish by the Next Step Committee, which is no longer active, having fulfilled its mission. Much of the history can be found on that committee's web pages.
