David Frazelle

David Frazelle was born in western North Carolina and grew up in Raleigh. He earned his B.A. in English with a second major in French at the University of the South in Sewanee, TN. Through the campus ministry at Sewanee, David encountered the Christian Faith and began a process of conversion that led to his baptism at the Easter Vigil of his senior year in college. David also began to discern a call to the priesthood at that time.

David went on to earn a degree in Biblical Studies at the Institut Catholique de Paris in Paris, France, through the generosity of a post-graduate grant from Sewanee. He moved back to Raleigh in 1999 and met his wife, Emily, who was finishing a joint degree in Law and Public Administration at UNC-Chapel Hill. David began the process towards ordination in the Diocese of NC. He and Emily moved to Alexandria, VA, two years later, where David earned a M.Div. at Virginia Theological Seminary. David was ordained to the deaconate shortly thereafter. He then spent five months hiking the Appalachian Trail from Maine to Georgia before beginning to serve at the Chapel of the Cross in December, 2004. He was ordained to the priesthood the following summer.

As Associate Priest for Parish Ministry, David oversees youth and young adult ministries, and he shares the liturgical, preaching, teaching and pastoral care ministries with his colleagues. As part of those duties, David leads the parish Centering Prayer group, the Youth Inquirers’ Class, and the EYC Mission Trip.

David and Emily have a full house where they are vastly outnumbered by two young children Thomas and Paul, Cooper the dog, Captain the bird, and various flora and fauna. David enjoys running, his most recent adventure being the Charlottesville Marathon, which he completed with a team of parishioners as a fundraiser for Episcopal Relief and Development.
