Christmas Wreaths

A Student Chaplain from ECM will be available for the next two Sundays (Nov. 15 and 22) to sell wreaths. Please find them outside the church (in inclement weather, in the dining room) between the end of the 9:00 am and the beginning of the 11:15 am services and then again after the 5:15 pm service. Wreaths can also be purchased in the church office during the week. Wreath sales will finish before Thanksgiving to allow time for delivery.

One World Market Here Today!

Our Fair Trade Sundays conclude with One World Market featuring products made in developing countries. Without support from developed countries, these artisans would not have a market for their products. One World Market is located in Durham and has brought wares to our church in past years for our convenience. For more information click here.

Episcopal Youth Community

Tonight all EYC will meet together from 5:00 pm till 7:00 pm in rooms 4 & 5. We will get crafty and make gifts for friends and family! Wear clothes that can get messy and get ready to let your creativity flow!! Please contact Caren Parker with any questions!

Attention Young Adults

A group of graduate students, professional students, and other young adults from the Chapel of the Cross and Holy Trinity Lutheran Church will go out on Franklin Street for our regularly-scheduled post-Compline refreshments. Look for John Derrick in the cloister after the service. We hope to see you there!

This Week

Episcopal Campus Ministry

Episcopal Campus Ministry meets in the campus center at 5:30 pm most Tuesdays during the academic term for fellowship, music and a hot dinner. This Tuesday, we will be having a Thanksgiving dinner. Come out and enjoy some turkey and be thankful for friends, family, and ECM!

Next Week

Advent Book Table

Next Sunday following all four services, the Book Table will be available in the parlor to offer books in keeping with the Advent season, as well as Advent calendars, church-themed gifts and other surprises. This sale is a way to support the parish library as well as find seasonally appropriate gifts. Please bring cash or your checkbook, since all sales must be completed on that day.

Parish Notes

Project 5000

Project 5000 food boxes provide emergency food for local families. The IFC is grateful for our donations. Today is the last day to return your Project 5000 boxes to the church.

Snack-Bakers Needed

College students love home baked cookies! Exam time is coming up and we would like to offer you the opportunity of supporting our student community with “the gift of sugar” during exams. Last year, many parishioners offered their time, talent and treasure to make the day of beleaguered students. We thank them enormously for this gift and ask that you please consider offering your culinary talents as well. Make as many as you like of the kind you like and deliver them to the church office by Dec. 2. We will package them with an encouraging note. We thank you and look forward to the bounty that will arrive!

Greens Needed

It is time again to ask parishioners to share evergreens from their yards to use in creating wreaths at an intergenerational event on the Sunday after Thanksgiving! Members of the Children and Family Ministry Committee are willing to come to your yards to clip. Please let us know by either contacting Gretchen Jordan or signing up on the Children and Family Ministry bulletin board in the dining room. List your contact number so we can arrange a time on Friday or Saturday to clip. Greens can be dropped off outside the door leading into the dining room near the playground before 10:00 am on Nov. 29. There will be large containers with water for earlier drop-offs.

Advent Devotionals & Offering Boxes

A display of devotional resources for the season of Advent is on the credenza in the dining room. There are new options from previous years: a guide for adults based on writings of C. S. Lewis entitled A Grand Miracle; a booklet for youth entitled This Is So Embarrassing!; a two piece set with a chart and sticker book entitled Symbols Tell the Story for children and an assortment of Advent calendars with the doors to open each day; wreath lighting weekly guides based on Year C scripture. Resources from previous years are also available. All these resources are offered by the parish at no cost. Suzanne Sauter’s wonderful Jesse Tree booklet with ornament patterns to make at home is on display as well. Offering boxes for the special Advent collection are to be returned between Christmas Eve and Epiphany. This collection will benefit a variety of children’s programs in the community.

Being a Greeter

How do you feel when a friendly person smiles at you and makes you feel welcome? Being a greeter is a lot of fun. You get to meet a lot of people, not necessarily newcomers! If you are interested, please contact Frank Holt at (call office for number).

Tinker Toy Wreaths For New Families

New families with young children who do not have an Advent wreath are invited to make a tinker toy style wreath at the intergenerational event on Nov. 29 at 10:20. Advent Quiet Day: Advent Reflections With Romanos The Melodious

Join David Frazelle and the Spiritual Life Committee for the annual Advent Quiet Day on Saturday, Dec. 5 from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm at Camp New Hope. David will be leading Advent reflections based on the homilies of Romanos the Melodious, a 6th-century Byzantine Saint. Discover this ancient priest who speaks with a marvelously contemporary voice, while welcoming the birth of Christ in your own soul. The day will include readings of his homilies, ample time for quiet reflection by the fire, walks outdoors, and breakfast snacks and lunch ($8 donation suggested). Sign up in the church office or by calling 929-2193. For more information, contact Jan Seabock at or (call office for number).

Christmas Caroling To Homebound Parishioners

Please join us on the Feast of St. Nicholas, Sunday, Dec. 6, at 2:30 pm for our annual Christmas Caroling to Homebound Parishioners. We will gather in the dining room to make a craft for the parishioners, practice our caroling and then depart for caroling to various retirement communities and individual homes. Sign up in advance on the bulletin board in the dining room to help us plan for refreshments. We’ll have rhythm instruments, Santa hats and reindeer antlers to add to the festivities! All are welcome to join us as we spread some holiday cheer this Christmas season. For more information, contact Heather Benjamin at (call office for number).

ABC Sale 2010...Save The Date!

As we enter the holiday season and the end of the year, perhaps you’re thinking of clearing out some of the extra treasures in your life that you don’t need, use or love. We’re looking for your high quality merchandise that we can sell at a good price. Please save your best donations for us! Proceeds benefit well-deserving organizations in our community that really make a difference. Also, we ask that you mark your calendars now because volunteers are the key to a successful sale. Stewardship Opportunities

No Live Trees Will Be Hurt

But they don’t last forever, and a 216-year-old university is always carrying pre-enjoyed trees out to its Carolina North wood lot. That’s where The Chapel of the Cross wood cutters, stackers and deliverers will go on one Saturday morning each month this winter. Families in Orange County who heat their homes with wood but can’t afford to buy it really need us. The first date is Nov. 21. We start at 9 am and we’re done by about noon. Anybody can help, and if you have some tools that’s great, but not a pre-requisite. For details, answers to questions about the work, and to get on the mail list contact David Brown or weekdays (call office for number).

For the Right Use of God’s Gifts

Almighty God, whose loving hand hath given us all that we possess: Grant us grace that we may honor thee with our substance, and, remembering the account which we must one day give, may be faithful stewards of thy bounty, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
