Lenten Supper and Discussion
Please join us this Thursday evening (5:30-7:30) as we continue our discussion of the PBS “Justice” series. Last week, we talked about Utilitarianism (the most moral thing to do is what brings the greatest good to the greatest number of people). This week, we will discuss the philosophical arguments of John Locke and Immanuel Kant and whether they stand up in a Gospel-centered community. No previous study of philosophy is needed, nor is pre-registration. A simple buffet supper (bread, soup and fruit) will be served at 5:30. At 6:00, we will watch a short video of a Harvard ethics class taught by Michael Sandel (www.justiceharvard.org). A discussion guided by clergy, staff and parishioners will follow. This week, the Rev. Stephen Elkins-Williams and Ian Dunn will moderate a conversation about “God-given rights” and the Truth (is Lying ever acceptable?).
Next Week
Parent Gathering
In the first of a two-part program, Will Dudenhausen of the Dispute Settlement Center will offer tools for better listening and communication. On March 14, he will return to discuss assertion skills. Jesus as Prophet
In this four part series, David Jamieson-Drake will explore how the Hebrew Scripture prophetic tradition can be applied to the life, words, and signs of Jesus and yet add up to so much more. Prophetic acts that both signify the prophet’s authority from God or formed part of their message will be the topic of next Sunday’s session.

Consider spending a day or two in prayer and reflection during the week of March 14-19. A lake front home on Lake Gaston (70 miles from the Chapel of the Cross) will provide the space (6 bedrooms); simple meals will be prepared and the daily offices will be facilitated by Gretchen Jordan. $25.00 per night. Calling All Volunteers for the 2010 ABC Sale!
The ABC Sale is just two months away (Saturday, April 17) and we still have important department co-chair positions that MUST be filled! We are currently seeking a co-chair for the following departments: Sorting, Treasures, Cook’s Corner and Large Item Pickup. This is a wonderful opportunity to share your time and talents with The Chapel of the Cross AND enjoy all of the benefits of fun and fellowship during sale week. Please visit us in the dining room after the 9am and 11:15am services for more information. If your time is tight during sale week but you’re looking for other ways to give, consider making a financial donation to help us cover the cost of volunteer snacks during the week; bake something for our bake sale; or simply set aside your best donations to bring in during sale week. If you have questions, please contact sale co-chairs Christina Balderson or Perri Kersh. You can also find out more about the sale at thechapelofthecross.org by clicking on the ABC Sale link. We look forward to hearing from you!
Now is the Time!
Did you know that all proceeds made from the ABC sales are returned to the community? Last year $27,000 was distributed to 21 local organizations. This year we’d like to do even better. But in order to know who needs the money, we need your help. Please encourage your favorite community organization to apply for an ABC grant. To do this, direct their executive director or grant writer to The Chapel of the Cross website. To read guidelines and find an application form, go to thechapelofthecross.org. Pull down Outreach and click on Outreach Funding Requests. Then click on ABC Sale Funds and Disbursement. Appllications will be accepted until March 31. Direct questions to Terry Johnston.

Prison Chapel Construction Donations
The Hillsborough Prison Chapel is well on the way to completion. A variety of expected donations of building materials and skilled labor have not materialized-the economic timing was unfortunate. So we find ourselves off budget by about 10% or $25,000-30,000 and are returning to those who have invested the 90% to date for help to complete this construction. Various indoor niceties have been put off, but basic items like HVAC, plumbing, and electrical needs remain. Please make your donations to the Chapel of the Cross with Prison Peace Center designated, or mail directly to Alamance-Orange Prison Ministry, P.O. Box 804, Graham, NC 27253. For more information, contact Terry Johnston.
For Guidance
O God, by whom the meek are guided in judgment, and light riseth up in darkness for the godly: Grant us, in all our doubts and uncertainties, the grace to ask what thou wouldest have us to do, that the Spirit of wisdom may save us from all false choices, and that in thy light we may see light, and in thy straight path may not stumble; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
