Dinner on the Grounds
Dinner on the Grounds, a pot-luck picnic, will be held after the 10:00 am service today. Please bring a dish large enough to serve your family plus several other people. Join us for a southern summer tradition that offers opportunity to greet newcomers and for parishioners who routinely attend different services to get to know one another.
Parish Notes
VCS offering
This week, during our Vacation Church School program called “Partners in Peace,” we will be collecting donations for “Pennies for Peace,” an organization that raises money to build and supply schools in impoverished areas around the world. Millennium Development Goal #2 is to “achieve universal primary education” by the year 2015. Even the youngest members of our parish are working to further the MDGs! If you would like to help them, you may make donations payable to the Chapel of the Cross with “Pennies for Peace” noted in the memo line.
Friend-sip and Fellow-sip
Friend-sip and Fellow-sip
The first Friend-sip and Fellow-sip event was a grand success!!! More than 50 women – truly all ages and stages! – gathered at Chrys Bullard’s home for the meet-and-greet gathering last Sunday afternoon. Everyone had such a good time visiting with friends and meeting new friends. Look for another gathering in the fall --- if not before!
Call for Soups and Casseroles
We need to replenish our parish freezer with nutritious soups and casseroles for parishioners in need. Please package in small quantities and be sure to label with ingredients and date. If you or someone you know could use some frozen meals to have on hand, please contact the parish office.
Faith and Global Hunger
Tune in to a nationally-syndicated radio series in support of the UN Millennium Development Goals airing locally on Day1 affiliates WDNC AM 620 (8am Sundays) and WDOX 570 AM (9am Sundays). Listen anytime at Day1.org. Copies of today’s sermon are available on the Christian Formation bulletin board in the dining room.

Wave of Prayer
Our parish has supported the efforts of Sabeel, Jerusalem and Friends of Sabeel, North America over the years and hosted both directors, Rev. Naim Ateek and Rt. Rev. Ed Browning. Sabeel is an ecumenical grassroots liberation theology movement among Palestinian Christians. Inspired by the life and teaching of Jesus Christ, this liberation theology seeks to deepen the faith of Palestinian Christians and to promote unity among them toward social action. Sabeel strives to develop a spirituality based on love, justice, peace, nonviolence, liberation and reconciliation for the different national and faith communities. Each Thursday at noon, Sabeel, Jerusalem holds a communion service. You are invited to become a part of a prayer chain encircling the globe by joining in prayer at noon each Thursday asking for peace with justice in Israel-Palestine.
Prayers of the People-Parish Supported Ministries
Have you noticed that each week in the prayers of the people, a parish supported ministry is listed? What are these parish supported ministries? These are community organizations which are supported by your financial contributions to The Chapel of the Cross. One of the roles of the Outreach Ministry Committee (OMC) is to recommend to the vestry the disbursement of funds based on grants requested of our parish. This also includes money raised by the ABC sale. Another role of the OMC is to educate the parish regarding the needs of community. You can find a bit of information about this organization below. Watch for the blurb and pray with us!

For the Care of Children (In anticipation of Vacation Church School)
Almighty God, heavenly Father, you have blessed us with the joy and care of children: Give us calm strength and patient wisdom as we bring them up, that we may teach them to love whatever is just and true and good, following the example of our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.
