Mission Trip Stockholders Needed
Stockholders are needed for the Chapel of the Cross Youth Mission Trip, Aug. 1-7. Each $25 share entitles the holder to: receive a personal letter from a Chapel of the Cross youth from a mission site; attend a celebration where the Chapel of the Cross youth will present their mission trip experiences; and the satisfaction of participating in God’s work in the world through the ministry of our youth. Please join us in these Ministries by becoming a Chapel of the Cross stockholder! Please email Caren Parker.
July Cross Roads Available Online
This month's issue of Cross Roads, our parish newsletter, can be found online at www.thechapelofthecross.org (look for the link on the left side of the page) or in hard copy wherever sermons are distributed in the church building. Please email info@thechapelofthecross.org if you would like to have Cross Roads mailed to your home.
Prayers of the People-Parish Supported Ministries
Have you noticed that each week in the prayers of the people, a parish supported ministry is listed? What are these parish supported ministries? These are community organizations which are supported by your financial contributions to The Chapel of the Cross. One of the roles of the Outreach Ministry Committee (OMC) is to recommend to the vestry the disbursement of funds based on grants requested of our parish. This also includes money raised by the ABC sale. Another role of the OMC is to educate the parish regarding the needs of community. You can find a bit of information about this organization below. Watch for the blurb and pray with us!
Augustine Project
The mission of the Augustine Project is to improve the reading, writing and spelling abilities of low-income children and teens who struggle with literacy skills. The project trains and supports volunteer tutors who provide free, long term 1-to-1 instruction. The Augustine Project, based at Holy Family Episcopal Church in Chapel Hill, also offers teacher training opportunities. They welcome the applications of volunteers willing to assume this worthy commitment. A number of parishioners participate in this program, and the parish perennially participates in its funding.
Faith and Global Hunger
Tune in to a nationally-syndicated radio series in support of the UN Millennium Development Goals. Listen anytime at Day1.org. Copies of last week’s sermon by Bishop Curry are available on the Christian Formation bulletin board in the dining room.

Wave of Prayer
Our parish has supported the efforts of Sabeel, Jerusalem and Friends of Sabeel, North America over the years and hosted both directors, Rev. Naim Ateek and Rt. Rev. Ed Browning. Sabeel is an ecumenical grassroots liberation theology movement among Palestinian Christians. Inspired by the life and teaching of Jesus Christ, this liberation theology seeks to deepen the faith of Palestinian Christians and to promote unity among them toward social action. Sabeel strives to develop a spirituality based on love, justice, peace, nonviolence, liberation and reconciliation for the different national and faith communities. Each Thursday at noon, Sabeel, Jerusalem holds a communion service. You are invited to become a part of a prayer chain encircling the globe by joining in prayer at noon each Thursday asking for peace with justice in Israel-Palestine.

Invest in Justice United
Are you a business owner or leader? Do you want to invest in positive social change for and by the people in your community? Then consider investing in the annual report campaign for Justice United! Justice United is a non-profit organization of institutions, reaching well over 5,000 families in Orange County. Justice United understands that it takes a whole community working together across race, faith, and economic status to ensure that our hopes for a better Orange County translate into concrete actions. In our first Annual Report Campaign, we invite the business community to join with us by supporting the work that we do by investing in advertising space in the Justice United Annual Report. For more information about how you can support the work of Justice United, contact Kirsten Sherk, ksherk@mindspringcom or 360-6616.
Puppy Parents Needed
Here's an opportunity to do good and have fun at the same time. Local service dog agency needs caring adults to care for, socialize, and assist in training pups who will become service dogs for persons with physical challenges or diabetes. A unique opportunity to learn skills in training dogs, observe the amazing capacity of dogs to help humans and provide important companionship, and make an enormous contribution to the life of a person in need of such a companion. A new puppy parent class for five parents begins in August 2010 in Carrboro. For more information, contact EENP (Eyes Ears Nose and Paws) at info@EENP.org, or 926-0457 or website: www.eenp.org.

For Joy in God's Creation
O heavenly Father, who has filled the world with beauty: Open our eyes to behold your gracious hand in all your works; that, rejoicing in your whole creation, we may learn to serve you with gladness; for the sake of him through whom all things were made, your Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
