Wylie S. Quinn III, Organist/Choirmaster
After a relaxed summer schedule, the choirs will return to their fall routines later this month. Please check details of any groups that may be of special interest to you.
Junior Choir: The first rehearsal will be held on Wednesday, August 22, in the parish house. Activities for the choir will begin immediately after school and will continue with a rehearsal at 3:45 p.m. and a pizza party/parents meeting, ending by 6:30 p.m. Please arrive as soon after school as possible for registration and vestment fitting. We have been asked to perform our medley from "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat," accompanied by a combo, at the parish barbeque on Sunday, August 26, at 7 p.m. This performance will require an extra rehearsal on Saturday, August 25 from 10 to 11:15 a.m. The Junior Choir is open to all children entering the third grade or above. More detailed information will be forthcoming for all returning and known potential choristers. If your young singer does not receive this information, please call the parish office.
Training Choir: This important first step in preparing our young singers to sing in church is open to all children in the first and second grades. Conducted by Teresa Ramsey with able assistance from Pam Miller, this group will begin its regular meetings on Wednesday, August 29, at 4 p.m. More detailed information will be forthcoming for all returning and known potential choristers. If you do not receive this information, please call the parish office.
Senior Choir: This auditioned group, which sings throughout the year, will hold the first rehearsal of the fall on Wednesday, August 29. There are several openings this year, notably for first soprano, tenor, and second bass. Please call Dr. Quinn at the church to arrange for an audition.
Parish Choir: This yet-to-be-organized choir is for all those who would like to sing without the rigorous schedule of the Senior Choir. Open to all, including parish young people and college students, this choir will rehearse at least twice a month and will sing frequently at the 5:15 p.m. Sunday service and for other services. It is expected that there will be stylistic variety in the music chosen, and this will in part depend upon the make-up of the group. An organizational meeting/first rehearsal will be held on Monday, August 27, at 7 p.m., in the choir room. This will not necessarily become the choir's set rehearsal time. If you have questions, please contact Dr. Quinn at the church or simply come to the first meeting.
Compline Choir: This choir, if it seems viable, is for night owls with a mystical inclination. Compline, the last service of the day, would consist largely of chant and would be sung in a darkened church at 10 p.m. one night a week. This service has had enormous appeal and a large following, especially among young people and students, at the cathedral in Seattle, at the University of Texas-Austin, and at Yale. Look for further information about an introduction to the service of Compline and to Gregorian chant in general and for an inquiry into the feasibility of such an undertaking. If you have thoughts on this matter in the meantime, please contact Dr. Quinn at the church.
Youth Musical: Auditions and preliminary rehearsals will be held in the fall, with performances scheduled in late winter of 2002. Dr. Quinn and Ms. Lee will be leading this project. Stay tuned for further details.
