Dollar$ and $en$e

Katherine Kopp, Stewardship Committee Chair

The arrival of August means that summer is coming to an end. Many parishioners have already enjoyed a summer trip or two, while others plan to take off for "just one more getaway" before summer truly comes to a close.

Summer vacation often means that attendance at church is more erratic or infrequent than usual, as changes in schedules and trips out of town affect some families' ability to attend services.

The beginning of this month is an especially good time to review your most recent pledge statement to check whether you are up to date on your annual pledge to the Chapel of the Cross. If you do not have a copy of, or if you have questions about your mid-July statement, please call the parish accountant, Debby Kulik. She will be happy to verify the amount you have paid on your pledge to date.

Just as in your home, monthly expenses for the church remain fixed throughout the year. Some expenses, such as utilities, may be even higher than usual due to the expense of air conditioning the church, the chapel, and the parish buildings. It can be difficult for the Chapel of the Cross to stay current with its own financial obligations if pledge payments lag far behind what is budgeted thus far this year.

If you or your family is not currently "paid up" on your pledge, it will certainly help the vestry, the treasurer, and the parish accountant manage cash flow if you will take a moment to drop a check in the mail or bring one with you to church this week. And if you have travel plans for the month of August, treat the payment of your pledge as you would one of your regular bills by writing out a check before you go or making other arrangements to keep your pledge up to date while you are gone.

Enjoy the rest of the summer!
