Summary of Actions Taken
At its September meeting, the vestry:
Discussed budget priorities for 2002 and named vestry members to budget sub-committees on worship and pastoral care, Christian formation, outreach, administration and infrastructure, and salaries and benefits
Elected Robert Wright and Vivian Varner to three-year terms as delegates to annual convention and elected Syd Alexander as first alternate, Stacey Tompkins as second alternate, Bob Chase as third alternate, Laurie Gosnell as fourth alternate, Henry Clark as fifth alternate, and Blanche Clark as sixth alternate
Learned that the junior warden is looking to develop some continuity with the maintenance of the mechanical systems of the church by developing a network of parishioners who are knowledgeable about the various systems and can be called upon when needed
Learned that the 2001 operating deficit to date is $67,420
Received the completed 2000 Audit by Butler & Burke, L.L.P./Certified Public Accountants
Accepted the donation of a vehicle for the Johnson Intern Program and requested that the board revise the proposed policy governing the use of said vehicle and bring the revised proposal to the vestry for approval at the October 18 meeting
Approved completion of the funding of the buildings and grounds endowment from proceeds of the Alice Lewis estate
Approved investment of additional principal of the buildings and grounds endowment in shares of the Diocesan Common Trust Fund
Approved payment of our $28,000 pledge, part of the tithe of the Lewis bequest, to the Church of the Holy Family's building fund
Requested a recommendation from the social ministry committee for use of an additional $16,000 tithe of the Alice Lewis estate
Approved the nominations of Becki Gales, Chris FitzSimons IV, Katherine Kopp, K.T. Vaughan (Chairperson), Linda Rimer, Paul Carew, Rita Weimer, Stan Tabor, Suzanne Sauter, Syd Alexander, and Bob Warren to the stewardship committee
Approved the opening of a new checking account at BB&T for Episcopal campus ministry, to replace the former account in the name of Anglican student fellowship
Approved Philip Meyer, Jean DeSaix, Mary Brenda Joyner, Wilson Fuller, and Andrew Dennis to sign checks on the Episcopal campus ministry account
Approved the nominations of Daphne Dow and Barbara Day to the University Ministry Committee.
The October vestry meeting was delayed beyond publication deadlines; reports from that meeting will be included in the December issue of "Cross Roads."
