Tim West, Spiritual Life Committee Chair

"Work and the Spirit," is the theme for our fall retreat/quiet day on Saturday, October 13, 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m., at the church.

Led by David Dodson, with help from other members of the Spiritual Life Committee, we will consider and have time to reflect on a question that haunts the background of daily awareness for many of us: Is it possible for the work we do every day to nourish our soul, or are the world of work and the world of the spirit forever consigned to be in opposition for most of us who work in secular vocations?

We will be using selections from the writings of the celebrated Quaker writer, teacher, and activist, Parker J. Palmer, as well as of others, including Thomas Merton and Rowan Williams, to inform and stimulate reflection. Lunch will be provided. Please contact the church office (929-2193) to register. The adult forum on Sunday, October 7, will offer a foretaste of this theme and how we will be working with it. For additional information, contact Tim West.
