ABC Sale Results

Peggy Pratt, ABC Sale Chair

Thanks to the participation of hundreds of parishioners, the 40th ABC Sale was a huge success. Despite chilly, overcast, and finally wet weather, we took in over $24,000 which, after sale expenses, will be distributed to various community agencies via the Social Ministry Committee's recommendations to the vestry.

Many thanks to all those who cleaned their closets, sorted and readied the church for the sale, picked up donations in the weeks before the sale, and made baked goods for our fabulous bake sale, to the many volunteers who worked the sale, and to those who shopped on sale Saturday.

A special thanks to our Episcopal Youth Community students who set up the church for the sale Sunday night, moving everything from the attic and setting up tables and racks so we were ready to start Monday morning. Thanks to the Preschool at the Chapel of the Cross that not only gave up their space for the whole week but moved all their equipment out so we could take over the rooms. Thanks to the parish staff who managed to work around us, cheered us on, and put up with the inconveniences the week creates. The Girl Scout troop that meets in the church ran the bake sale and helped get refreshments to our workers. The Boys Scouts guarded our parking lot all day in the cold and rain and stayed to help with clean up. Thank you to all our scouts, their parents, and leaders.

Our clean-up this year was the best ever. A large crew from the Episcopal Campus Ministry and our Habitat students -- assisted by the Scouts -- came in and worked in a record two-and-a-half hours to ready the church for Sunday morning. They were awesome! The sale will make a contribution to the ECM Barbados Mission trip and the Habitat Honduras building trip. A final thanks to our department chairs who worked tirelessly all week and without whom the sale would not be possible. This event is truly a remarkable parish-wide community activity!
