As you will have noticed at 10:00 a.m. Sunday services, the Senior Choir has continued to make a joyful noise unto the Lord throughout the summer months. Likewise our volunteer organists have served admirably at both the 8:00 a.m. and 5:15 p.m. services. We very much appreciate everyone's dedicated efforts and their flexibility in working around the complications of schedule that result from renovations to the Chapel. The parish's other musicians have been having a more relaxed summer. All choirs will return to their fall routines later this month. Please check details of any groups in which you or members of your family may be involved. If you are not in a choir at this time but are interested in singing, please read on and contact the Organist-Choirmaster.
Junior Choir. The first rehearsal will be held on Wednesday, August 21, in the parish house. Activities for the choir will begin immediately after school, and will continue with a rehearsal at 3:45 p.m. and a pizza party/parents meeting, ending by 6:30 p.m. Please arrive as soon after school as possible for registration and vestment fitting.
Plans for this year include
* a late-summer swim party
* an Evensong sung entirely by the Junior Choir
* the wedding of a former chorister
* more advanced work by the high school girls in the choir
* in addition, of course, to the usual Lessons and Carols, Christmas Party, Christmas Eve Pageants, Epiphany service, sleepover, and end-of-the-year sacred concert.
The Junior Choir is open to all children beginning with the third grade. More detailed information will be forthcoming for all returning and known potential choristers. If your young singer does not receive this information, please call the parish office.
Training Choir. This important first step in preparing our young singers to sing in church is open to all children in the first and second grades. Conducted by Teresa Ramsey with able assistance from Pam Miller, this group will begin its regular meetings on Wednesday, August 28, at 4:00 p.m. More detailed information will be forthcoming for all returning and known potential choristers. If you do not receive this information, please call the parish office.
Senior Choir. This auditioned group, which sings throughout the year, will hold the first rehearsal of the fall on Wednesday, August 21. If you are interested in singing please call Dr. Quinn at the church to discuss current openings and, if appropriate, to arrange for an audition. Plans for the fall include a performance of the Faur? Requiem with orchestra on September 11, evensong for the Feast of St. Michael and All Angels, a polyphonic mass on All Saints Day, and our traditional Advent Procession with Lessons and Carols.
Parish Choir. This choir is open to all, including parish young people and college students, without an audition. The first rehearsal of the fall will be held on Monday, August 26, at 7:00 p.m. in the choir room. The choir will sing, on average, two 5:15 p.m. services a month and on other occasions as well. In its very successful first season the choir sang 14 Sunday evening services, went caroling, sang with the Compline Choir for the principal service on Maundy Thursday, and presented a concert of their 'greatest hits' in the spring. If you are interested in singing with this group contact Dr. Quinn at the church, or simply come to the first rehearsal.
Compline Choir. This schola cantorem sings Gregorian chant and polyphony in a darkened and incense-laden church at the parish's weekly service of Sung Compline, the last service of the day on Sundays during university term. This service has won a devoted following in its first year, and special thanks go out to the faithful and prayerful group who sang so beautifully and soulfully ? and at such a late hour. The Compline Choir will hold its first rehearsal on Sunday, August 25, at 8:00 p.m. and sing a service at 9:30 the same evening. If you are interested in singing Compline please contact Dr. Quinn at the church. Other assistance is also needed with this service: setting out and lighting the candles, care of music stands and lights, firing up the thurible, and keeping a steady haze of holy smoke billowing through the church, extinguishing the candles, Monday morning clean-up, and so on. Again, please see Dr. Quinn if you would like to help.
