Barbados Mission Trip

+ Letter to Parishioners
+ University Committee Members
+ Mission Support

Dear Parishioners and Friends:

The Bishop of the Diocese of Barbados has invited student and parishioner members of our Episcopal Campus Ministry (ECM) to visit his island diocese in March 2002 for a weeklong program of work and reconciliation activities. The University Ministry Committee of the Chapel of the Cross is helping to plan and support this mission which will include about 25 college students and 5 parishioner advisors in our Campus Ministry.

The Committee plans to fund the mission trip by three means:
1. Some funds already available in our mission trip budget;
2. Contributions by the ECM students or their families at the level of $450 per student; and
3. Student sponsorships or contributions provided by parishioners and families of the Chapel of the Cross.

We are writing now to ask you to consider a $450 sponsorship contribution for one student for the Barbados Mission trip. If you cannot now provide a full sponsorship perhaps you could form a group with other parish families to share a sponsorship. For example, five families might pitch in $90.00 each to "share" a student. For those who cannot now sponsor a student or participate in a family group sponsorship, there are other levels of contribution that would help immensely. A contribution of $50, $100, or $150 would be welcome, either in single payment or a pledge to be fulfilled over the first few months of the new year.

Sponsorships and contributions are tax deductible if made to "The Chapel of the Cross - Barbados Mission 2002". We would like to identify sponsors for as many students as possible by February 15th and to receive all contributions or pledges by March 1st, 2002.

During February we will hold a pot luck supper for supporters and student travelers to present the details of the mission trip and to allow parishioners and students to meet each other. A similar dinner will be held in April after the mission to share the experiences of the mission group.

More details about the Mission are enclosed for your review. Contribution and pledge information is also enclosed for your use. If you need further information call me e-mail me or any UMC member (roster below).

Please consider participating as a sponsor or contributor for the 2002 Barbados Mission. We need your help to make this happen.

Sincerely,
Don Stedman, UMC Chair
