In the Library
K. T. Vaughan, Parish Librarian
February and March are months during which Americans traditionally celebrate the historical, cultural, and political contributions of minorities and women. The Episcopal Church has been active in many of the social and political issues of the last fifty years, including poverty and hunger, racial reconciliation, the roles accorded to women in the Church, and the stewardship of our natural resources.
Our Parish Library collects books on these and other issues in several sections. The umbrella section is 15: Social & Political Issues, but sections 16 through 19 cover women's studies, race relations, health and environmental issues, and gender issues in the church. In February, why not try Section 17: Race Studies, where we have books by and about Desmond Tutu, Martin Luther King, Jr., and the role of the clergy in the civil rights movement. In March, check out Section 16: Women's Studies for the sermons and stories of holy women throughout history.
Have you got a favorite book about one of these issues? Share it with your fellow parishioners -- donate it to the library!
