"St. Augustine's 'On Free Choice of the Will'" by
Tim Hinton
These sessions will be devoted to an examination of this justly famous but fairly short text. Three main topics will be considered: Augustine's account of human freedom, his explanation of the origins of evil, and his attempt to show how the existence of evil is compatible with the existence of a God who is perfectly good. Books ($6.95) will be available through the parish office, where you should sign up as soon as possible. Tim Hinton teaches in the Philosophy Department at N.C. State University and is a parish member.
"Wisdom and Other Stuff" by David Jamieson-Drake
Our resident scholar on Hebrew Scripture continues his romp through the books commonly called the Wisdom Literature and some of the historical books. He will cover Psalms, Proverbs, Job, Song of Songs, Ecclesiasticus, Lamentations, Ruth, Esther, Ezra, Nehemiah, Chronicles, and Daniel between January and May. David Jamieson-Drake, a professor at Duke University, is a parish member.
