Don Stedman Chair, University Ministry Committee
The Bishop of the Diocese of Barbados has invited student and parishioner members of our Episcopal Campus Ministry (ECM) to visit his island diocese March 7-16 for a weeklong program of work and reconciliation activities. The University Ministry Committee of the Chapel of the Cross is helping to plan and support this mission which will include about 25 college students and 5 parishioner advisors in our Campus Ministry.
1) Lauren Morley, a Carolina senior and Barbados-bound campus ministry missionary, got a boost from her home parish, St. Francis in Greensboro. A check for $450 was presented to Lauren by her parish to help cover the cost of her Barbados mission expenses. You can help our students, too. Send a check payable to the Chapel of the Cross, with "Barbados Mission 2002" noted on the memo line. More support is urgently needed to assist students in their work.
2) Don Stedman will be guest bartender at the Carolina Club on Tuesday, March 5. All proceeds and tips from that evening will go to the Barbados mission fund. Come on down from 5:30 to 7 p.m. You don't have to be a Carolina Club member, and non-alcoholic beverages will also be available. The Carolina Club is in the Hill Alumni Center on the north side of Kenan Stadium on the UNC campus.
3) While our missionaries are in Barbados, they will be hosted for a reception by the U.S. Embassy staff there. The new U.S. Ambassador to Barbados is Phil Phillips, a Greensboro businessman and Carolina graduate.
