From the Parish Mailbox

Dear Reverend Elkins-Williams,

First of all I want to congratulate you and your volunteers on the stupendous sale your church held last Saturday. I remarked to many church people there that it was, simply put: a study in organization Š and I appreciated that people were so pleasant and helpful. But I especially want to commend you on your practice of sharing with other worthy organizations in our community those things that are left over at the end of the sale rather than simply trashing them. Bravo to you, truly.

So, thank you so much for the kind and generous donation of the left over stuffed animals and linens to the Animal Protection Society (APS) -- certainly one of our community's worthy organizations.

Our animals benefit greatly by the presence of a furry stuffed animal in their kennels as they wait and hope for that special person to adopt them. As you might imagine, we can use quite a lot of these stuffed animals to soothe and entertain the many animals we are committed to care for. And, as the animals are soothed, so too are the dedicated shelter workers as they witness this joyful interaction! As for the old towels and other linens, it goes without saying that these are basic and essential in the care and grooming of our animals. What might not be quite so evident, however, is that the unlikely but still soft old toilet seat cover make a most comfy bed for a puppy or kitten! Age softened throw rugs create a warm and soothing barrier from the cold cement floor. These items that otherwise might be just cast off as out of fashion or tattered bring great comfort to our animals. Thank you so much for sharing these comforting things with the animals at our APS!

Most sincerely,
Bernadette McKnight
