Host Family Program
Molly Dempsey

For a number of years, the Chapel of the Cross has sponsored the Host Family program to join parishioners with University students.

All parishioners are invited to participate, whether you are an individual or yours is a large household, a young couple with no children or small children, or someone whose children are ‘grown and gone.’ Any one of us can be that friendly face in the crowd to a student who has become only a number in the large university system.

The matching of students and parishioners is done by Host Family leaders. Your responsibility is to make initial contact. After that, the course of the relationship is up to you and your student. Together you work out mutually enjoyable activities and times to share. In the past, relationships have involved such activities as invitations to the parishioner’s home for occasional meals, attending social functions together, providing a quiet place for study, mentoring, etc. What is important is for students to know that someone cares that they are here.

We are sure you will find your association with this program both enjoyable and rewarding. Your interest and support are crucial to its success. For more information, contact Mary Kent Hill or Molly Dempsey.
