The annual ABC Sale is just around the corner!
Saturday, March 29, 9 am-2 pm
Peggy and Ted Pratt

The holidays are past and it’s the perfect time to clear out those attics, basements, and closets. The ABC Sale is a wonderful way to support our community. The parish provides a venue for reasonable shopping opportunities, and then the proceeds from the sale go back into the community. Charitable groups submit requests to our Social Ministry Committee for funds from the profits of the sale.

The sale also provides a wonderful opportunity for fellowship in our own church community. It is a great way to put together names and faces, meet new folks, and join together to make this short-term service project a success.

If you have only a few hours, a day or the whole week to give, you can be a big help. Volunteers will be needed throughout the week before the sale (day and evening) and on Saturday sale day. We have almost all our department chairs in place but may still need a few department co-chairs. Call Peggy or Ted Pratt, Sale Co-Chairs, if you might be interested. The organizational meeting for the department chairs will be held on Saturday, February 15th, at 9 a.m. in the library.

Volunteers are needed to sort donations, deliver them to the right departments, ready the departments for the sale, price and then sell merchandise. We also will need help with publicity. Posters and flyers in English and Spanish will be available in the dining room. Please take some and spread the word. Without shoppers, the sale cannot succeed. If you have some time to help our publicity chair, Sarah Shappard, with calls and follow-ups, please call Peggy or Ted as soon as possible.

On the day of the sale, we will need extra help with door and hall monitors, parcel pick up, and directing shoppers. We would like to have someone available with emergency medical training. We would also love some volunteers who can speak Spanish and assist in directions.

Anne Ramsey has again volunteered to be our Carol Woods liaison. She will accept donations from residents there who might have difficulty getting their goods to church. We would love to have a Carolina Meadows volunteer liaison as well.

The Episcopal Youth Community students have been instrumental in setting up the parish for the sale the Sunday before. We need adults to assist in directing their efforts. The EYC and Youth Inquirers Class have also helped serve lunch to shoppers. If you can assist their efforts, please let us know. Our Episcopal Campus Ministry students and our Habitat for Humanity students have helped with cleanup to aid their mission trips. Molly Dempsey, the Cleanup Chair, could use three or four assistants to help direct the students after the sale on Saturday.

Our Garden Department wants to have a good selection of live plants for the sale. If you have plants or seedlings (indoor or outdoor), nurture them along and give our Garden Department a boost. We will also be soliciting baked goods for our bake sale. Your specialties will be needed!!!! Our Girl Scout troop will run the sale. We hope to be able to sell coffee and bagels before the sale and have snacks for our volunteers delivered to their rooms. If you can help in arranging or coordinating this project, let us know. We hope to get some food donations. Our Boy Scout Troop has helped annually with the parking, traffic direction, and clean-up!

This truly is a parish wide event! An ABC volunteer form is on the next page. Please find your niche and return the completed form to the parish office or contact the department chair directly. Call Peggy or Ted Pratt (919-493-8059) if you have questions or other ways you can be of help. There will be an ABC table in the dining room Sunday mornings throughout March. Check there and in Crossings for volunteer opportunities.
