Vestry Actions

At its November meeting, the vestry:

— Expressed official vestry appreciation in recognition of Stephen Elkins-Williams’ 20th anniversary on the parish staff and for his work during that time as leader and friend

— Received an update on the Every Member Canvass

— Approved the expenditure of $25,000 from accumulated income of the Cobb Fund for the recent emergency repair of the connector roof between the Yates Wing and the Battle Building

— Deferred until summer 2003 receipt of a proposal for lighting improvements in the chapel

— Made further revisions to the draft of the proposed computer use policy, delaying action until December

— Authorized the parish to begin to offer long-term and short-term disability insurance to all employees not currently covered, the cost of this insurance to be paid by the individual employee, whether lay or clergy.

— Approved the nomination of Michael McElreath as chair of the University Ministry Committee

— Learned that the University Ministry Committee is looking into training of lay campus ministers to serve campuses without a campus ministry chaplain

— Learned that the Diocese has cut the Campus Ministry budget significantly as a part of across the board cuts

— Approved the recommendations of the Social Ministry Committee for disbursal from the discretionary outreach line item of $500 to AIDS Alliance Services - Carolina, $100 to Yokefellows’ Christmas party, $200 to Yokefellows’ party for inmates’ families, $159 to AIDS Care Team at AIDS House, $500 to Family Violence Prevention Center, $200 to Orange County DSS Foster Care Christmas Fund, $500 to flood relief at Iglesia El Buen Pastor, $500 to Grape Arbor Development Corporation, $350 to Martin Luther King Scholarship, and $500 to Blue Ridge Opportunity Commission

— Approved the recommendation of the Social Ministry Committee for a special contribution of $1500 to Habitat for Humanity toward construction of an Orange County house during Annual Convention, this contribution to be funded from the tithe of the Jean Atkinson McLean bequest
