Marion (Chick) White 1.
When did you become a member of the Chapel of the
Cross?
2002, after attending services for four years and
then transferring from the Church of Reconciliation.
I grew up as an Episcopalian. Aside from the feeling
of “being at home,” this parish provides
me a rich liturgical experience, the strength of
its ministers and church community; a strong commitment
to the community at large; and a beautiful physical
environment for worship.
2.
Have you ever been on the vestry, either at this
or any other parish? [If yes, please note dates,
parish(es) and positions held, if applicable.]
No.
3.
What are your current activities (groups, committees,
etc.) within the parish?
I am a member of the Environmental Stewardship Committee
and liaison from it to Buildings and Grounds. I feel
strongly that the earth was created by God and as
such is not to be trashed. We need to be better stewards.
I am also a coordinator for a Foyer dinner group;
the dinner groups provide a very warm way to meet
other parishioners, whether one is new or expanding
on an existing group of friends.
4.
In what activities have you been involved in the
past at the Chapel of the Cross?
I was on the Board and then President of the Pre-School
at the Chapel of the Cross in the mid-1970s (when
I was a member of the Church of Reconciliation).
5.
In what activities are you involved in the greater
community outside the parish?
Since I retired from full-time work in Public Health,
I have increased my volunteer activities. I continue
my interest in public health as a volunteer with
the Orange County Health Department and through the
Board of the Carolina Mammography Registry. I help
the environment as a steward and fund raiser for
the Island Heritage Trust (a land trust). I have
worked hard this winter on peace issues and am a
member of the Committee to End the Cycle of Violence.
I support the extensive work of the Woman’s
Center and help with their fund raising activities.
