Thompson Children's Home
Splash
Into Summer! From May 4 through June 8 "Go Fishing" for new clothes for a
child's summer needs. "Reel" in a heart at the display in the parish dining
room. Buy the item listed and return it unwrapped to the
parish office by June 10. For those unable to do the actual shopping,
financial contributions can be made to the rector's discretionary fund with
notation, "For Thompson Children's Home clothes."
You are
also welcome to sponsor much needed twin bed sheets, lightweight bedspreads
(for girls), comforters (for boys), flash lights, swim goggles, tennis shoes,
raincoats or
ponchos, or knit sweaters (sizes 8 to 16 girls/boys in Navy for school uniform
or bright
colors for church & play).
The
residential psychiatric treatment
program at Thompson Children's Home
provides a variety of therapeutic, educational, recreational, spiritual,
and healing ministries in a nurturing care facility for some of our most
abused, neglected, and vulnerable children. In most cases the courts have
terminated parental rights. Thompson serves children from across the state of
North Carolina who are in the care of division of protective services in
departments of social services. Thompson receives no private referrals and
only departments of social services and Medicaid pay fees for services.
Since
1999 the Chapel of the Cross has been a visionary leader in providing
clothing for the children at Thompson Children's Home as it has been the only
parish in North Carolina providing year around head to toe clothing and
sponsoring three annual clothing drives. In February our Rector and our
Bishops took our clothing drives and their "blue prints" to
Diocesan Convention and shared them with clergy and delegates.
