Good Samaritan guild
Victoria Jamieson-Drake, Associate for Pastoral Ministry
The Good Samaritan Guild needs two to four more coordinators.
The Good Sams are a great group of volunteers who respond to the
needs of parishioners in times of short term crisis or illness,
with tasks such as delivering casseroles and soups, transportation
to health care appointments and church services, running errands,
and respite care giving to convalescents or care-givers. The recent
"Cook Day" was organized by the Good Sams to fill our
church freezer with yummy soups and casseroles, ready for delivery.
The guild also has a medical equipment loan closet with walkers,
wheel chairs, and other aids. If you have ever been on the
receiving end of the Good Sams ministry, you know how welcome their
help can be.
The guild currently has about 25 members divided into six teams,
each serving two months of the year. We need to find replacements
for two of our six coordinators who recently resigned to do other
ministry. If we can add four more coordinators, all the better.
Coordinator tasks include emailing the clergy once a week for names
of parishioners who may need assistance, then calling the
parishioners to see what assistance would be helpful. The
coordinator then contacts team members who respond to the need.
Much of this can be done by email. For more information about the
Good Sams, please contact the Rev. Victoria Jamieson-Drake at the
parish office or Peggy Pratt, or speak to the other Good
Sams coordinators, Molly Dempsey, Mary Kent Hill, or Johanna
Hodgson.
[If you or someone you know is in need of assistance from the
guild, please speak with a member of the clergy or contact the
parish office.]
Send
items for inclusion in future "Cross Roads."
The deadline is the first Thursday of the preceeding month.
