Project 5000 will hand out boxes to parishioners with a list of groceries attached for IFC. We ask you to take one, fill it and return in during the month of October. The demands on IFC have been especially great this year and their food supply is currently low. We can make a difference. For more information contact Peggy Pratt.

Celebrate the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi with the Blessing of the Animals Service. ECM is inviting the Parish and their animals to this service at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, October 3 in the Cloister between the Church and Chapel. All of God's creatures are welcome at the service. Supper will follow ($3 per person suggested donation, $10 maximum per family).

Habitat Golf Fundraiser
Monday, September 25, was a glorious day for golf and supporting Habitat. Fifty-four golfers, including Stephen Elkins-Williams and Vicky & David Jamieson-Drake, convened at The Preserve at Jordan Lake to participate in the sixth annual UNC Student - Chapel of the Cross Habitat Partnership golf tournament. This event is the single largest source of funding for our parish's Habitat Partnership. Contributions of support to the tournament are still being accepted, and we continue to encourage you to show your support for Habitat! Receipts to date are just over $17,000, and the cost to our partnership to build a house is $30,000. The golf steering committee would like to thank all those who have contributed to the tournament with their generous donations of time, effort, and money. For more information go to the website at habitat.unc.edu/playforpar/ or call Lucinda Thompson.

Help Launch the Micah Group
The Chapel of the Cross has a strong history of service in our own backyard and far corners of the globe. But our church vision calls on us not only to "care for those in need," but also to "strive for justice and peace among all people." In an effort to live out this dimension of the vision, and explore our role in a global mission, a small group of parishioners has formed the Micah Group (from Micah 6:8). Join us at our first meeting on Sunday, October 8, from 1 to 3 pm in the Library, to learn how our congregation can be part of a global movement to alleviate poverty. A light lunch will be served. RSVP to Patricia Watts Hill, pawatts@earthlink.net.
Mary Esser Memorial
The Episcopal Church of the Advocate will dedicate a silk tapestry commissioned in memory of Mary Esser at its Sunday liturgy at 5:00 pm on October 22. Mary Esser, a longtime member of the Chapel of the Cross, was a founding member of the Church of the Advocate, a mission launched in 2003 by the three established Episcopal Churches in Orange County -- the Chapel of the Cross, Church of the Holy Family and St. Matthew's Church. The 6' x 9' tapestry, created by local artist Nancy Whittington, is called "The Flame and the Seed", and it captures the spirit of Mary Esser, of the Church of the Advocate, and of the Advocate (Holy Spirit) for whom the mission church is named. The tapestry was commissioned with funds given in memory of Mary Esser after her death in October of 2005.
At the October 22 liturgy, the Church of the Advocate will also dedicate a prie dieu that is being given to the mission in memory of Mary Esser by members of her book group, many of whom were members of the Chapel of the Cross.
