Thomas Bloom, Michael Hugo, Joseph Khoury, Lyn Francisco, Roy Upchurch, and Christopher Bross will play music by J.G. Walther, Dietrich Buxtehude, Georg Boehm, Henry Purcell, L.N. Clerambault, Felix Mendelssohn, and Leon Boelmann. All are cordially invited to this recital.

On Tuesday, October 31, at 12:15 pm Virginia Vance of Peace College will present a recital on the Kleuker Organ in the church.

An Update From Vicky

Mom is declining, asleep or dozing most of the time, but still lucid and aware when awake. Thankfully the pain seems to be under control.... My two sisters are here, and one of my stepsisters. Other family have been coming in or calling to say their goodbyes. It is a sad but generally peaceful time where love is very present. The hospice staff have been very supportive.... Vicky Jamieson-Drake

All Saints' Day Service

Solemn Eucharist for the Feast of All Saints is this Wednesday at 8:00 pm. In addition to the great hymns for All Saints' Day, the principal music for this service is the great Messe Solennelle, Op. 16, by the famous blind organist of Notre Dame de Paris, Louis Vierne. The anthem is English composer William H. Harris's setting for double choir of John Donne's poem "Bring us, O Lord God, at our last awakening." The organ voluntaries will be J.S. Bach's monumental Passacaglia and Fugue in C minor. The preacher will be the Rev. Michael Hunn. Michael leaves his position as Episcopal Chaplain at Davidson College and Associate Rector at St. Alban's Church, to become Canon to the Ordinary for Program and Pastoral Ministry for the diocese on All Saints' Day.

12:30 Social Hour

Please come to the 12:30 social hour after the 11:15 service every Sunday for a hearty welcome to the Chapel of the Cross and light refreshments. This event is managed totally by parishioners so we welcome new volunteers; please sign-up in the dining room

Annual Giving

Thank you to all who gathered at the church on October 16 to telephone fellow parishioners and to all who have already returned your pledge cards to the parish office. All pledges are important - and we still need many pledges to come in. If you did not receive a pledge packet in the mail, please call the parish office and a packet will be sent to you immediately. You can also make your pledge on line: www.thechapelofthecross.org. We would like to have all pledges in hand by our In-Gathering Sunday, November 26.

Social Ministry Steering Committee Needs You

The Social Ministry Committee is urgently seeking parishioners to serve on the Steering Committee for Refugee Resettlement. The committee will function as a team responding to the needs of our Burmese families. The current Steering Committee needs help in coordinating the program and interfacing with the refugees to make major decisions regarding their care. This is a rewarding opportunity to participate in the outreach of the parish and serves a crucial need as we work to resettle our new families. The project involves few meetings, and it is time limited. For more information contact Peggy Pratt at pegpratt@nc.rr.com or Barbara Tremblay at btrem@verizon.net.

We will meet one evening in mid-November to plan and then work through the book together starting in mid-January. Contact David Frazelle at dfrazelle@thechapelofthecross.org, for more information or to sign up. The group is limited to 12.

Heifer Project

We have two more weeks to complete our Heifer Ark Project. We are $2,000 short of our goal of 112 puzzle pieces! Please consider making a donation to help alleviate hunger worldwide. Donations are tax deductible. We have created "In Honor of" cards with envelopes for you to give a donation as a gift. Consider Christmas gift giving and purchase now to limit the frenzy of holiday shopping and give a gift that makes a difference! See to the display in the dining room. Make your donation and add a puzzle piece for each $12.50 given. Checks are to be made payable to the Chapel of the Cross, earmarked Heifer.

Altar Flowers

Offerings of flowers for the altars of the church and chapel are provided by those who wish to remember loved ones or to give thanks for special occasions, such as anniversaries or the birth of a child. The names of the persons being remembered or honored are listed in the weekly announcements section of the Sunday service bulletin. Look for an Altar Flowers form in your October "Cross Roads." There are also forms (purple) in the church dining room. Completed forms may be left in the Altar Guild mailbox or mailed to the church.
