On Tuesday, November 14, at 12:15 pm Alexander Anderson of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Chapel Hill will present a recital on the Kleuker Organ in the church.

12:30 Social Hour

Please come to the 12:30 social hour after the 11:15 service every Sunday for a hearty welcome to the Chapel of the Cross and light refreshments. This event is managed totally by parishioners so we welcome new volunteers; please sign-up in the dining room.

In Mission With Honduras

Global Missions Committee invites all interested parishioners to join us in the parlor at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, Nov. 7, as we begin planning our 2007 trip in mission with Honduras. Our destination this year will be San Patricio, the first Episcopal church in the state of Yoro and a dynamic new parish ministering to inner-city laborers in El Progreso, an industrial city in northern Honduras. San Patricio has asked for our help with construction of their church building, with children's church school, with liturgy and parish organization. We have much to give to and much to learn from the clergy and parishioners there. Come share in our mission partnership with the Diocese of Honduras. If you wish to participate but can't attend the meeting, please email annhenley@msn.com.

Social Ministry Steering Committee Needs You

The Social Ministry Committee is urgently seeking parishioners to serve on the Steering Committee for Refugee Resettlement. The committee will function as a team responding to the needs of our Burmese families. The current Steering Committee needs help in coordinating the program and interfacing with the refugees to make major decisions regarding their care. This is a rewarding opportunity to participate in the outreach of the parish and serves a crucial need as we work to resettle our new families. The project involves few meetings, and it is time limited. For more information contact Peggy Pratt at pegpratt@nc.rr.com or Barbara Tremblay at btrem@verizon.net.

Project 5000

Many thanks for the strong support once again for Project 5000. So far we have received over 200 boxes with many still out. If you have a box you have not yet filled or have not yet returned, please return it filled Sundays on the bench outside the parish office or to the office during the week. We hope to get those in and delivered the Inter-Faith Council as soon as possible. Please remember that there are always receptacles in the parish office and near the elevator to drop off non-perishable food for IFC. Thank you.

Episcopal Campus Ministry

ECM is the fellowship group for undergraduates. A ministry of the Chapel of the Cross and an official UNC-CH student organization, we meet every Tuesday at 5:30 pm in the campus center for program, worship service and dinner. Undergraduates of any faith or denomination are welcome to join us. For more information go to http://www.unc.edu/ecm.

Gifts Discernment And Spiritual Formation Group

Cross Ties, the young adult fellowship at the Chapel of the Cross, is beginning a gifts discernment group for 20-and-30-somethings without children. We will be using a book called The Three Colors of Ministry, which guides us through the study of biblical characters and other tools to help us discover and use our spiritual gifts. We will meet one evening in mid-November to plan and then work through the book together starting in mid-January. Contact David Frazelle at dfrazelle@thechapelofthecross.org, for more information or to sign up. The group is limited to 12.

Intergenerational Church School Next Sunday

Second grade students through adults will participate in an intergenerational event next Sunday, November 12 from 10:20-11:05. 2 year old through 1st grade classes will meet as usual. Members of the Ad Ed Committee designated by a yellow hat will have tickets for room assignments and will be at all exit/entrance doors of our buildings. There will be 6 groups meeting in various locations in the church. This event will provide activities about hunger with a special emphasis on Goal 1 of 8 of the MDG's (Millennium Development Goals) which calls us to alleviate hunger and extreme poverty by 2015. Help assemble bags of 6 bean soup for our area food pantry, engage in a few games and activities and consider one thing you and your family can do to help meet the goal by 2015.

Advent Prayer Groups

Six prayer groups meeting three times each are being offered for the season of Advent. The groups will engage in the lectio divina prayer form. Information about this is in the Nov. Cross Roads with a registration form. You may also find a brochure and registration forms in the dining room tract rack. The deadline for forms is Nov. 25.

Book Study

Mary: the Imagination of her Heart (by the Rev. Penelope Duckworth) book study begins Monday, Nov 6, at 7:30 pm in the parlor. Copies of the book are in the main office and can be picked up by those who signed up to participate. There are three extra copies for purchase. Discussions continue on the next two Mondays, Nov. 13 and Nov. 20. The discussion will be facilitated by the Rev. Martha Hart.

Heifer Project Countdown

Just one more week to complete our Heifer Ark Project. We are $1,300.00 short of our goal! Please consider making a donation to help alleviate hunger worldwide. Donations are tax deductible. We have created "In Honor of" cards with envelopes for you to give a donation as a gift. Consider Christmas gift giving and purchase now to limit the frenzy of holiday shopping and give a gift that makes a difference! See to the display in the dining room. Make your donation and add a puzzle piece for each $12.50 given. Checks are to be made payable to the Chapel of the Cross, earmarked Heifer.

UNICEF Boxes

If you collected money during Halloween week for UNICEF, please return the box of money to the church office as soon as possible.

Call For Soups And Casseroles

The Good Samaritan Guild is once again asking parishioners to get out those tried and true recipes and help restock our freezer with nutritious soups and casseroles which are then taken to parishioners in times of need. Please use pans and containers that do not have to be returned. Multiple small portions are much more useful than a large casserole, as food generally goes to a couple or an individual. Please date your contributions and label them with ingredients. It is helpful to mark them for Good Samaritans. They are stored in the freezer in the dishwashing room. If you bring it during the week, the office staff can direct you. Questions? Contact Peggy Pratt (call office for number) or pegpratt@ nc.rr.com.

Christmas Wreaths

DECK THE HALLS.... with beautiful, scented, balsam wreaths from the great state of Maine. Wottons' Evergreens has been working with the Chapel of the Cross for the past ten years providing us with this unique mission fund raising opportunity. Buy one for yourself or send one to friends and loved ones for Christmas. Look for us following the services on November 5, 12, and 19 for more details.

Episcopal Youth Community

There will be NO EYC tonight! We are all still recovering from the LOCK IN. EYC will return in its usual time and place next week! EYC meets most Sundays from 5:30 - 7:30 in the dining room. We invite and encourage all sixth through twelfth graders to participate. Contact Caren at cparker@thechapelofthecross.org with any questions.

CrossTies

CrossTies returns for round three on Saturday, November 11th from 5:30-8pm in the dining room and parlor. These dinners are now open to parishioners of all ages, with an emphasis on young adults and families with children. Our focus will be a selected topic or reading with the group's reaction and interaction to follow. Come see what it's like to forget about "hi, how are you?" and dive into the deeper conversations we all seek. Bring a side dish, salad, or beverage to share and enjoy an entree provided by the church. Babysitting is on-site and has included arts and crafts, dessert-art, and story time. The fee for babysitting is $5.00 per child. For the purposes of space and entree planning, all dinner guests are kindly asked to RSVP to Stacey Richardson (call office for number) at staceyr3@gmail.com.

Voting God's Politics

This "issues guide for Christians," a project of Sojourners and a Call to Renewal, is available in the tract rack in the dining room. Copies are limited. If there are none available when you peruse the rack, you can order a copy from www.sojo.net or by calling 800-714-7474.
