Annual Giving
This is a busy time of the year for all of us! If you have not already done so, please take a moment to prayerfully consider making a pledge for 2007. This year's annual giving brochure reflects that: True stewardship commitment is not merely an act of obligation or even an act of generosity. It is an act of faith. Faith that God has provided everything we have and will provide everything we need. Faith that sharing God's gifts is the foundation of discipleship in Christ. Faith that all of us sharing together can do more than any of us individually. Faith that the commitment of each of us is very important. The Vestry will rely on our pledges to plan next year's budget. And our commitment - our pledges - will make the crucial difference in shaping the 2007 ministries of The Chapel of the Cross.
12:30 Social Hour
Please come to the 12:30 social hour after the 11:15 service every Sunday for a hearty welcome to the Chapel of the Cross and light refreshments. This event is managed totally by parishioners so we welcome new volunteers; please sign up in the dining room.
Mission With Honduras 2007
The Global Missions Committee invites all parishioners to join us on our May 2007 Honduras trip in partnership with Iglesia San Patricio, El Progreso. For more information about signing up for Honduras 2007, by going or supporting the mission group, see the December/January Cross Roads or email Ann Henley at annhenley@msn.com.
Episcopal Campus Ministry
ECM is the fellowship group for undergraduates. A ministry of the Chapel of the Cross and an official UNC-CH student organization, we meet every Tuesday at 5:30 pm in the campus center for program, worship service and dinner. Undergraduates of any faith or denomination are welcome to join us. For more information go to www.unc.edu/ecm.
1st And 2nd Grade Worship
The class will meet on Nov. 19 in the Campus Center. The focus will be on the liturgical calendar year. Children are reminded to work on the responses.
Greenery Needed
The sign up sheet to indicate your willingness to provide greenery for the December 3 wreath making activity is NOW posted on the Children and Family Ministry bulletin board in the dining room. You may also contact Boykin Bell or Gretchen Jordan. If you have greenery but need someone to come cut it or pick it up, we can provide that service, too. We need greenery...boxwood clippings, evergreens and holly are ideal for making wreaths. Call at 929-2193, Ext. 27 or 37 or sign up on the sheet provided.
Medical Equipment Closet
We want to remind all parishioners that the church has a medical equipment loan closet with walkers, wheelchairs and other equipment. If you or someone you know is in need, please call the office. They can handle it or put you in touch with the Good Sams Coordinator.
Furniture Needed
Our Burmese Families need furniture: book and toy shelves for the children to store their toys, a child's play table with two chairs, a dresser or something to hold clothing, a coffee table or anything that could serve as a bedside table or end table. Contact Barbara Tremblay (call office for number) or btrem@verizon.net. In a few months Say Ther and Tha Gay will be having their third child. If you are parting with infant clothes, equipment, furniture etc - please contact Barbara or Peggy Pratt.
Alternative Gifts Project
The Social Ministry Committee is looking for an individual or a team to head up the Alternative Gifts Project this year. This provides a chance for parishioners to make a donation to a worthy organization in someone's name as a way of remembering and honoring them at Christmas time. There are written instructions on how it has been done and folks to advise you. Committee members will volunteer to staff the tables after December services. In the past the project has raised a total of anywhere from $900 to $3000 in contributions. The table would be in the dining room the first three Sundays in December. For more information, call Peggy Pratt (call office for number) or pegpratt@nc.rr.com.
Advent Prayer Groups
Prayer groups meeting 3 times each are being offered for the first 3 weeks of Advent. The groups will engage in lectio divina prayer form using Year C lectionary passages focusing on prophecy, pregnancy and promise. There are 6 groups scheduled: Sunday evening and Tuesday evening at 7:30, Wednesday morning at 9:00, Wednesday afternoon at 4:15 and Thursday morning at 11:00. A group will also convene at Carol Woods on Thursday mornings at 10:00. You may complete a registration form found in the November Crossroads or simply sign up in the parish office. Each group is limited to 12 participants. Please include your email or phone so group leaders can contact you if necessary. November 26 is the deadline for registering.
Wipe Out Hunger
Last week's intergenerational event engaged over 100 parishoners of all ages and produced some excellent ideas about what one person can do to help reach the MDG (Millenium Development Goals) goal #1 to eradicate world hunger by 2015. Displays produced by the groups are posted throughout the building. Some of the suggestions are for the parish to provide at least one more IFC cook team, and for individuals to contribute one non-perishable food item each week to our collection bins, make a financial or time contribution to some program that helps in this area such as Heifer, vote for candidates with a track record of supporting programs relevant to hunger issues, educate ourself by reading a book or signing up for the EPPN --- Episcopal Public Policy Network and don't be wasteful. Peruse the displays for other creative ways to engage!
Call For Soups And Casseroles
The Good Samaritan Guild is once again asking parishioners to get out those tried and true recipes and help restock our freezer with nutritious soups and casseroles which are then taken to parishioners in times of need. Please use pans and containers that do not have to be returned. Multiple small portions are much more useful than a large casserole, as food generally goes to a couple or an individual. Please date your contributions and label them with ingredients. It is helpful to mark them for Good Samaritans. They are stored in the freezer in the dishwashing room. If you bring it during the week, the office staff can direct you. Questions? Contact Peggy Pratt (call office for number) or pegpratt@ nc.rr.com.
Christmas Wreaths
DECK THE HALLS... with beautiful, scented, balsam wreaths from the great state of Maine. Wottons' Evergreens has been working with the Chapel of the Cross for the past ten years providing us with this unique mission fund raising opportunity. Buy one for yourself or send one to friends and loved ones for Christmas. Look for us following the service today, your last day to sign up.
Episcopal Youth Community
EYC will meet today from 5:30 - 7:30 in the dining room. We invite and encourage all sixth through twelfth graders to participate. Please contact Caren Parker at cparker@thechapelofthecross.org with any questions.

Caroling To Homebound
On Sunday, Dec. 10, parishioners are invited to join others at 2:30 in the dining room for hot chocolate and hot cider and a bit of singing before we depart for area nursing homes and homes to visit parishioners. Please sign up on the listing on the Children and Family Ministry bulletin board in the dining room which has NOW been posted.
Children's Pageant
Children 5th grade and below and their parents are invited to the annual "no practice" pageant Saturday, Dec. 16 at 2:30 in the church. You may secure a costume the week before or simply arrive early enough to choose and dress before the 2:30 enactment. This is a highlight of the children's programs of the parish. All parishioners are invited to come and relish in the joy and mystery of the Luke 2 story.

Fire Wood Drive
December 2 is Wood-Cutting Day
Chapel of the Cross volunteers gather on several weekends each winter to cut and deliver wood for those in our community who need it for heating fuel. The first date is the morning of Saturday, Dec. 2. We need volunteers who can saw, split, and load wood. If you have a pickup truck and wood cutting gear, that's especially helpful. Everyone who's interested in helping can contact David Brown (call office for number) or Larry Logan (call office for number) for directions to the site. Look for later announcements about other dates this winter.
Bishops Blend - EYC Missions
EYC will be selling Bishops Blend Coffee after the 9:00 and 11:15 services on December 3, 10, and 17th. Bishops Blend Coffee is 100% organic, shade grown, and fair trade. It tastes great and makes a great gift for the coffee lovers you LOVE! Just $10 a bag. Proceeds will support the 2006 Youth Mission trips.
IFC Thanksgiving
Holidays are for Sharing - As Thanksgiving approaches, we ask you to remember those less fortunate by purchasing a holiday meal for an IFC family. $20 helps them offer a holiday meal, turkey and all, to an entire family. Coupons are available in the dining room by the fireplace and by the Ministry bulletin board. Send the coupon and your check for $20 to: Inter-Faith Council, 110 W. Main St. Carrboro, NC 27510. You may also send your check to Chapel of the Cross. Be sure to write For IFC Holiday Meals in the memo line.
Preschool Bookfair
The Preschool at the Chapel of the Cross invites you to our Barnes & Noble Bookfair at New Hope Commons December 8-10. A percentage of your purchases will benefit our school scholarship fund. Choose from bestsellers, children's books and toys, games, gift items, CDs, DVDs and more.
