Songs Of Thanks And Praise
Join Suzanne McDonald, organist, and parishioners Phil Rees, Chrys Bullard, James Tench, Nancy Tunnessen and Greg Bell for a sing along in the chapel. The parishioners listed have already chosen a favorite song and will offer some information about their selection. Choose a favorite hymn of praise from the hymnal to request or bring the music of a favorite one not in the hymnal and join in this seasonal gathering.
12:30 Social Hour Today
Please come to the 12:30 pm social hour after the 11:15 am service every Sunday for a hearty welcome to the Chapel of the Cross and light refreshments. This event is managed totally by parishioners so we welcome new volunteers; please sign up in the dining room.
Greenery Needed
The sign up sheet to indicate your willingness to provide greenery for the December 3 wreath making activity is NOW posted on the Children and Family Ministry bulletin board in the dining room. You may also contact Boykin Bell or Gretchen Jordan. If you have greenery but need someone to come cut it or pick it up, we can provide that service, too. We need greenery...boxwood clippings, evergreens and holly are ideal for making wreaths. Call at 929-2193, Ext. 27 or 37 or sign up on the sheet provided.
Next Sunday
Jesse Tree And Advent Wreaths
This is an annual event for all ages on the first Sunday of Advent. You may purchase an oasis form or bring one from home. There will be plenty of fresh greens to fill it. Candle sets will also be available for purchase. Other wreath options will be offered and the popular Jesse Tree ornament making will be led by Suzanne Sauter. Advent devotional materials are on display for your choosing.
Episcopal Youth Community
There will be NO EYC tonight! We hope that everyone had a fantastic Thanksgiving! EYC will return at its usual time and place next week! EYC meets most Sundays from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm in the dining room. We invite and encourage all sixth through twelfth graders to participate. Contact Caren Parker at cparker@thechapelofthecross.org with any questions.
Bishops Blend - EYC Missions
EYC will be selling Bishops Blend Coffee after the 9:00 and 11:15 services on December 3, 10, and 17th. Bishops Blend Coffee is 100% organic, shade grown, and fair trade. It tastes great and makes a great gift for the coffee lovers you LOVE! Just $10 a bag. Proceeds will support the 2006 Youth Mission trips.
Announcements
Episcopal Campus Ministry
Ty Holden will be sharing his experience as a United Nations Intern in a Tanzanian refugee camp on Tuesday at ECM. It promises to be a riveting session. The chaplain is making a fabulous dinner and all undergraduates are invited to be present. ECM is the fellowship group for undergraduates. A ministry of the Chapel of the Cross and an official UNC-CH student organization, we meet every Tuesday at 5:30 pm in the campus center for program, worship service and dinner. Undergraduates of any faith or denomination are welcome to join us. For more information visit the website at www.unc.edu/ecm.
JIP
The Johnson Intern Program is in full force, in the final classes of Servant Leadership 1, here at the church. Call if you are interested in other Servant-Leadership classes offered through The Johnson Intern Program. A couple of needs for the intern house: a twin bed box spring and fireplace tools...and maybe even some wood. Let us know if you can help with any of these. Call Susan at 929-2193.
Annual Giving
The Church office very recently received a generous pledge of $600. Unfortunately, the name and address of the donor were not filled in on the pledge form or envelope. If this sounds familiar, please call the church office so we will be able to count this pledge. Today is In-Gathering Sunday, the day that pledge cards are presented at the altar as a token of our spiritual and financial commitment to the mission of the Chapel of the Cross for 2007. We have not yet met our goal. It is critical that the 2007 budget be fully funded - if you have not yet made your pledge please do so as soon as possible. Sound financial planning by the Vestry is made possible by reliable pledge revenue. Please join other parishioners in supporting the vital work of our parish.
Advent Prayer Groups
Prayer groups meeting 3 times each are being offered for the first 3 weeks of Advent. The groups will engage in lectio divina prayer form using Year C lectionary passages focusing on prophecy, pregnancy and promise. There are 6 groups scheduled: Sunday evening and Tuesday evening at 7:30, Wednesday morning at 9:00, Wednesday afternoon at 4:15 and Thursday morning at 11:00. A group will also convene at Carol Woods on Thursday mornings at 10:00. You may complete a registration form found in the November Cross Roads or simply sign up in the parish office. Each group is limited to 12 participants. Please include your email or phone so group leaders can contact you if necessary. Today is the deadline for registering.
Showering Our Refugee Baby
We are awaiting the arrival of our first "American-born refugee" baby due on January 10. We have had offers for a baby crib. A car infant seat has also been donated. We invite you to help us assemble a large basket filled with new items for the baby. These would include crib sheets, crib blanket or quilt, receiving blankets, changing pads, baby towels, washclothes and toiletries, infant one-piece suits, bibs, infant disposable diapers. baby bottles and bottle brush, diaper bag, baby sling holder, as well as gift cards to supplement purchases. We would like to have the basket ready by December 17 to present to Say Ther and Tha Gay before the holidays. Please drop off your contributions to the basket in the dining room from now until December 17th.
Call For Soups And Casseroles
The Good Samaritan Guild is once again asking parishioners to get out those tried and true recipes and help restock our freezer with nutritious soups and casseroles which are then taken to parishioners in times of need. Please use pans and containers that do not have to be returned. Multiple small portions are much more useful than a large casserole, as food generally goes to a couple or an individual. Please date your contributions and label them with ingredients. It is helpful to mark them for Good Samaritans. They are stored in the freezer in the dishwashing room. If you bring it during the week, the office staff can direct you. Questions? Contact Peggy Pratt (Call office for number) at pegpratt@nc.rr.com.

Advent Quiet Day
The Rev. Stephen Elkins-Williams will lead the Advent Quiet Day on Sat., Dec. 2 from 9:30 am until 2:30 pm in the Dining Hall at Camp New Hope. Advent readings will be the scriptural basis for contemplation, with silent times for prayer and reflection, a quiet lunch and a concluding Eucharist. Participants are asked to bring a Bible and a notebook for writing reflections. Camp New Hope is located on Highway 86 north of Chapel Hill. Casual dress is encouraged. Breakfast snacks and a light lunch with vegetarian options will be served ($6 contribution requested). Carpooling will be available. Please stop by or call the parish office at 929-2193 to sign up for the Quiet Day. Social Ministry Meeting
Parishioners are invited to attend the Social Ministry Committee meeting on Dec. 3 in the parish parlor at 1 pm. There will be an hour program for committee members and all other interested parishioners on AIDS services in Durham and Chapel Hill. There will be presenters from our parish and from the community. Our business meeting will follow and those who would like to learn more about the committee workings are, as always, welcome to stay.
Global Missions
The Global Missions Committee invites interested parishioners to attend its meeting Monday night, Dec. 4, at 7:00 pm as we develop plans for a mid-May trip to Iglesia San Patricio in El Progreso, Honduras. Members of St. Matthew's, Hillsborough, will be joining us to explore a combined mission initiative in Honduras. We'll meet in the Conference Room or the Dining Room, depending on the size of our group. Please email annhenley@msn.com if you plan to come so we can let the office know which space we don't need. We welcome your ideas and energy as we reach across boundaries of language and culture to serve and to share God's love.
The Men's Breakfast
The Men's Breakfast Group will meet on Wed, Dec. 6, at 7:30 am in the Parish Dining Room. The speaker will be Professor James W. Lea of the UNC School of Medicine. The cooks will be Larry Hart and David Hubby. Newcomers are always welcome. For further information please call Vince (Call office for number).
Caroling To Homebound
On Sunday, Dec. 10, parishioners are invited to join others at 2:30 in the dining room for hot chocolate and hot cider and a bit of singing before we depart for area nursing homes and homes to visit parishioners. It helps in planning to have some idea of the number who plan to join us. Please sign up on the listing on the Children and Family Ministry bulletin board in the dining room which has NOW been posted.
Children's Pageant
Children 5th grade and below and their parents are invited to the annual "no practice" pageant Saturday, Dec. 16, at 2:30 in the church. You may secure a costume the week before or simply arrive early enough to choose and dress before the 2:30 enactment. This is a highlight of the children's programs of the parish. All parishioners are invited to come and relish the joy and mystery of the Luke 2 story.

Fire Wood Drive
Dec. 2 Is Wood Cutting Day
Chapel of the Cross volunteers gather on several weekends each winter to cut and deliver wood for those in our community who need it for heating fuel. The first date is the morning of Saturday, Dec. 2. We need volunteers who can saw, split, and load wood. If you have a pickup truck and wood cutting gear, that's especially helpful. Everyone who's interested in helping can contact David Brown (Call office for number) or Larry Logan (Call office for number) for directions to the site. Look for later announcements about other dates this winter.
Preschool Bookfair
The Preschool at the Chapel of the Cross invites you to our Barnes & Noble Bookfair at New Hope Commons Dec. 8-10. A percentage of your purchases will benefit our school scholarship fund. Choose from bestsellers, children's books and toys, games, gift items, CDs, DVDs and more. Simply tell the cashier that you are shopping the Preschool Bookfair and the school will receive credit for your purchase. Don't miss this chance to get some holiday shopping done and benefit PCC at the same time!
