Lenten Intergenerational Event Today
Prepare for the Lenten season (begins Ash Wednesday, Feb. 21) at the intergenerational program today for 4 year olds through adults! Everyone is asked to go directly from worship to the Chapel for a brief opening before moving around the parish buildings to engage in ways of observing a holy Lent through prayer, almsgiving, self examination and self denial. Beverages and light snacks will be available in the dining room after the opening and for you to pick up and refill when moving about. Thank you to the Environmental Stewardship, Global Mission and Children & Family Ministry committees for the three activity centers.
Preparing for Lent and your "fast" from carbon
Today during the Inter-generational event, and during the adult education session next Sun. Feb. 25, you will have the opportunity to measure your "carbon footprint," that is, to measure the amount of carbon dioxide that you and your family put out into the atmosphere which contributes toward global warming and the changing of the climate of Earth, God's creation. This is the first step in your "carbon fast" for Lent. Members of the Environmental Stewardship Committee will be helping you to calculate your carbon footprint. To do this most accurately, you will need to bring information on your monthly or yearly electric, gas or fuel oil costs, as well as the annual mileage of each car in your family and the number of airline flights taken each year by each member of your family. We can always use "average American values" so don't worry if you do not have this information. We hope you will take this opportunity to "fast" from carbon for Lent. Soon after Easter, our Rector will be announcing the total amount of carbon reduced by our parish during this Lenten Season, and we want to include the amounts from you and your family. If you have any questions about this, please contact Linda Rimer (call office for number) or at lbrimer@bellsouth.net.
Parish Dialogue Sessions

However, all sessions are open to anyone in the parish who would like to learn more or ask questions about the proposed plan. You are invited to attend one of the sessions below. This will be a time for learning about and discussing this important plan for the future of the parish. Note also that there are two sessions at the church on February 24 and March 3 that are open to all parishioners. We encourage everyone to attend any session below. Announcements
Parish Choir Openings
The Parish Choir seeks additional singers. If you are interested, call Dr. Quinn or simply come to a rehearsal, Monday nights at 7:00 in the choir room.
Inclement Weather Information
When icy or snowy weather occurs, we will make decisions about cancellation of services or office hours as early as possible. Generally, Sunday morning services will be held, but parishioners and staff should check for announcements before coming. Announcements will be made on WRAL and WTVD television stations, and on WCHL-1360 radio. There will also be an announcement on the parish voice mail system if there is no interruption in power. To access the voice mail announcement, dial 929-2193, and press 1 for touch tone phone, then press 7 for the announcement about inclement weather. If icy conditions cause a power outage in the parish house, the voice mail system will not operate. In all cases, we'll open the parish office as soon as our staff feels conditions are safe for driving.
Vestry Election Ballot
The nomination period for vestry election has closed. This year we have 11 nominees. They are Valerie Bateman, Eugene Dauchert, David Dill, Tony Hawkins, Susannah Holloway, David Joseph, Doug Kelly, Carter Kersh, Ele Ross, Jimmy Satterwhite and Bill Stockard. We are holding a preferential ballot to select eight nominees for election on March 18. Preferential ballots were mailed this week to every baptized confirmed communicant 16 or older. If you did not receive a ballot, please call the parish office. You may mail your ballot to the parish office or return it to the Vestry Election Ballot Box in the dining room no later than 6:30 p.m. on February 25, 2007. Introductory information is available for review in notebooks beside the ballot box along with a parish directory for pictures of nominees.
