Episcopal Youth Community

EYC will meet today at 2:00 pm in the dining room for ABC Sale set up. Come ready to work. Please wear work clothes and closed-toe shoes. There will be ice cream after to thank everyone for their hard work. On Saturday, April 21, EYC will be cooking and selling lunch during the ABC Sale. If you are interested in working with us please email dfrazelle@thechapelofthecross.org.

Foreign Currency for Missions

Students from EYC will be collecting leftover foreign currency from parishioners' foreign travels to benefit EYC mission activities. All those coins and bills that have been taking up space on top of your chest of drawers can now go to great use! Students will be collecting donations after the 9:00 and 11:15 services today and next Sunday. Donations will be gladly accepted during ABC sale week. Rector of San Patricio to Visit

Father Eduardo Monzon, rector of San Patricio and Canon for Outreach and Evangelism of the Diocese of Honduras, will serve as a special leader of Children's Chapel and will preach at the 5:15 service today. The Global Mission Committee invites you to hear Father Monzon and to meet him at an informal reception in the courtyard immediately following the evening service.

Crop Hunger Walk

Check-in for the CROP Walk is today at 2:00 pm at the Carrboro Town Commons. If you are walking or if you have made a donation, thank you for your efforts to alleviate hunger locally and internationally.

Adult Inquirers' Class

The Adult Inquirers' Class meets Monday nights from 7:30 to 9:00. Tomorrow's topic will be "Eucharist and Liturgy" with Ms. Jamieson-Drake and Ms. Hart in the chapel.

Episcopal Campus Ministry

ECM meets every Tuesday at 5:30 pm in the Campus Center and is open to all students who wish to join in for fellowship. Dinner is served immediately afterwards.

Next Week

Lenten Offering

The special offering for Lent introduced at the February "Prepare for Lent" intergenerational event, must be turned in by next Sunday, April 22, in order to have a check ready to present to Rev. Richard Kunz, Executive Director of El Hogar, who will be visiting with us. In all the activity of Easter morning, only two donations were received! If you did not participate in collecting money to purchase a specific piece of furniture for the new home for girls at El Hogar but would like to do so, please make a check payable to Chapel of the Cross and earmark it "Lenten Offering."

Announcements

Hospitality Manager Needed

The parish is seeking a person for a part-time position responsible for maintaining the orderliness and hospitality of our facility, especially the kitchen, dining room and parlor, as well as serve as a resource for groups using these areas. It may require some flexible hours including weekends and Sundays for special services. For more information and a full job description, contact Barbara Hastings at 929-2193.

Wedding Coordinator

The parish is seeking a person to serve as wedding coordinator. The wedding coordinator assists the clergy and staff at the Chapel of the Cross in planning and coordinating preparations for all weddings taking place here. Persons interested may read more information in the Wedding Brochure on the parish website. A printed copy is also available in the parish office. Those interested may contact Barbara Hastings after April 16 to apply.

ABC Sale Funds Requests

The annual ABC Sale will be held next Saturday. Proceeds from the sale go to worthy charitable organizations within and outside the community. The Social Ministry Committee is now accepting requests for grants from the sale's profits. Anyone wishing to make such a request may obtain an application from the parish office or get a copy from the parish website (www.thechapelofthecross.org). The guidelines for consideration of requests is also on the website. The deadline for receiving applications is today. If you are involved with an organization or know of one interested in submitting a request, please pass this information on to them. For more information, contact Barbara Tremblay (call office for number).

Children's Art Project

This Wednesday, April 18, is the last day to submit finished artwork! We want all the children of the parish to participate in the stained glass window art project for Earth Sunday on April 22. Children are invited to make a pencil drawing of a place where he/she feels close to God (preferably in nature) or things in nature that make him/her respond, "Whoa, that is so awesome, how did God ever create that?" A pencil drawing is to be done on a sheet of typing paper turned so that it is 11 inches in length and 8 1/2 inches in width. Return the pencil drawing to Gretchen Jordan to be copied onto transparency. It will be returned for your child to then color with permanent markers.

Emergency Procedures

Emergency procedure instructions for the parish buildings are now posted by the alarm box located in the hallway by the parish office. If you have questions, please see Tom Mander, facilities manager, or call Clare Baum (calll office for number).

Living the Questions

The final four segments of the video discussion program facilitated by our clergy will begin on Thursday, April 26, with both morning from 10:00-11:30 am and evening groups from 7:30-9:00 pm. The sessions are titled "Lives of Jesus," "Compassion," "Passion for Christ" and "Out in the World." If you plan to attend any of the sessions, please sign up in the parish office and indicate which sessions you will attend.

Vacation Church School

Registration continues for our summer VCS program, to be held July 23-27. Registration forms are available in the dining room. Please note that this year's program is for children entering kindergarten in the fall 2007 up through children completing fifth grade this spring. Registration is currently open only to church parishioners and those visiting our parish. If classes are not filled by May 31, registration will be opened to the wider community.

Stewardship

Report Your Carbon Reduction

Remember to report the results of your carbon fast for Lent so the Environmental Stewardship Committee can calculate the total reductions for the parish. The rector wants to announce the benefits that our collective effort has made toward protecting our planet, God's creation. Please use the reporting form in the carbon fast folder that you received either on February 18 or 25, 2007. If you have questions about how to calculate or report your carbon reductions, please contact Linda Rimer (call office for number) or at lbrimer@bellsouth.net.

IFC Food Pantry

The IFC Food Pantry continues to need help meeting the increasing needs of those in our community who lack adequate food. Specific requests are for Ramen noodles, canned fruit, macaroni and cheese, canned pasta, canned pinto beans and dry beans (pinto, black and lentil). Containers for food offerings are in the tower room at the entrance to the church and in the parish office. Community Notes

Club Nova Thrift Shop

Located in Carrboro, Club Nova promotes and provides opportunities for individuals living with mental illness to lead meaningful and productive lives of their choice in the community. As a non-profit organization, Club Nova raises funds for its programs through its adjoining thrift shop. The thrift shop offers quality second-hand goods such as clothing, books, music, household and kitchen items and select furniture. Open Tuesday through Friday from 10 am to 6 pm and Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm, Club Nova Thrift Shop gladly accepts both material and monetary contributions during regular business hours (all donations are tax deductible). The community's support and generosity through volunteering and donating goods is greatly appreciated and always welcome. Million Meals for Eradicating Hunger

On April 21, three local Rotary clubs will join forces with other local caring groups and organizations to put together 170,000 meals to be sent to developing countries. Our Social Ministries Committee has committed to this cause both financially and in terms of manpower. The event will be held in Chapel Hill at the American Legion Hall on Legion Road. This is an inter-generational activity which can include family members from ages five and up, so if one of your family members is working the ABC sales, the rest of the family is welcome to work in the assembly line making up bags of meals. Time slots are from 9:00 am - 11:30 am, 12:00 pm - 2:30 pm and 3:00 pm - 5:30 pm. Please sign up in the office for one of the time slots and indicate how many in your family wish to work. Project Compassion

Because effective legal, financial and healthcare planning requires an integrative approach, Project Compassion will bring together some of the most experienced professionals and community leaders in the Triangle to help you explore the next steps in your planning. The symposium will take place on Saturday, April 28, from 8:30 am - 12 pm at Carol Woods Assembly Hall at 750 Weaver Dairy Rd. Continental breakfast and exhibits begin at 8 am. Registration is $35 or $25 for students and seniors 60+. Partial scholarships may be available. Global Climate Change

A program and workshop entitled, "What Must We Do in the Face of Global Climate Change?" will be held Saturday, May 19 at the Chapel of the Cross. Sponsored by the Committee for Environmental Ministry, the North Carolina Council on Churches, and North Carolina Interfaith Power and Light, this program explores the Christian's response to global climate change. 2007 Swindell Lecture

The Bishop's Committee of the Swindell Major Speakers Fund presents keynote speaker Barbara Cawthorne Crafton, Episcopal priest, spiritual director and author.
