Announcements

Counters Needed

Each Monday morning a group of parishioners meets to count and deposit all money received by the parish during the prior week. We need additional people for this important committee. The group meets at 8:30 each Monday and is usually finished by 11:00. If you would be interested in providing this service to the parish please call the parish accountant, Debby Kulik, at 929-2193. If she is not in the office, please leave a message and she will return your call.

Hospitality Manager Needed

The parish is seeking a person for a part-time position responsible for maintaining the orderliness and hospitality of our facility, especially the kitchen, dining room and parlor, as well as serve as a resource for groups using these areas. It may require some flexible hours including weekends and Sundays for special services. For more information and a full job description, contact Barbara Hastings at 929-2193.

Loaves and Fishes Guild

The Loaves and Fishes Guild invites you to become a part of parish hospitality. The Guild offers refreshment in a variety of settings, including Sunday morning coffee and Parish dinners and receptions. This is an easy and enjoyable way to serve your fellow parishioners and to offer welcome to visitors and parishioners. You will have the fun and camaraderie of working together and the satisfaction of knowing you have performed a vital service for the church. If you would like to help or if you have any questions please call Liska Lackey at (call office for number) or e-mail liska.lackey@gmail.com.

ABC Sale

Many thanks to all who participated in the 2007 ABC Sale. In one week, we had hundreds of volunteers, thousands of items donated and many happy shoppers. The Social Ministries Committee is already busy planning how to distribute the nearly $32,000 raised on April 21, 2007. While the financials are important, the greater benefit of the sale is the fellowship it builds throughout our parish. A week spent working together, praying together and, this year, lighting candles together is priceless. Thank you again to all who contributed time, talent and treasures.

God and Me/God and Family Programs

God and Me and God and Family are programs designed to help grade school children expand their spiritual development through study of scripture, discussion, and activities. These programs are popular with children in scouting programs but are available to all Protestant children. God and Me is for second and third graders and explores core tenets of Christian faith. God and Family is for fourth and fifth graders and addresses Christianity in the context of the family. Each involves a series of hour-long group sessions for participants (five for God and Me, seven for God and Family) plus home study and activities. If you are interested, please contact Frank McBride at (call office for number) or StratAdvan@aol.com as soon as possible.

Vacation Church School

Registration continues for our summer VCS program, to be held July 23-27. Registration forms are available in the dining room. Please note that this year's program is for children entering kindergarten in the fall 2007 up through children completing fifth grade this spring. Registration is currently open only to church parishioners and those visiting our parish. If classes are not filled by May 31, registration will be opened to the wider community.

Art Display

"Celebrate God's Creation" is a window of color and expression offered by children of the parish in observance of Earth Day. Children were invited to depict things in nature that elicited a response like, "Whoa, how in the world did God create that!" or to depict a place where they feel the power of God's presence. A variety of art responses await your gaze in the window looking out on the courtyard. Children made sketches in pencil which were copied onto transparencies and then colored with permanent markers. We trust this stained glass window art will offer to you the joy and awe of God's creations.

Mark Your Calendar

Nothing to Hide Coalition Movie Screening

The Nothing to Hide Coalition on Mental Health is planning a special showing of an extraordinary movie, I am Still Here, which shows, with insight and compassion, the challenges and triumphs of living with schizophrenia. The movie will be shown at the Carrboro Century Center, 100 N. Greensboro Street, on May 10. The event will begin with light refreshments at 6:30 pm; the movie will begin at 7:00 and will be followed by a panel discussion. The event is free to the public; donations will be accepted.

Stewardship

Report your Carbon Reduction

Remember to report the results of your carbon fast for Lent so the Environmental Stewardship Committee can calculate the total reductions for the parish. The rector wants to announce the benefits that our collective effort has made toward protecting our planet, God's creation. Please use the reporting form in the carbon fast folder that you received either on February 18 or 25, 2007. If you have questions about how to calculate or report your carbon reductions, please contact Linda Rimer (call office for number) or at lbrimer@bellsouth.net.

IFC Food Pantry

The IFC Food Pantry continues to need help meeting the increasing needs of those in our community who lack adequate food. Specific requests are for Ramen noodles, canned fruit, macaroni and cheese, canned pasta, canned pinto beans and dry beans (pinto, black and lentil). Containers for food offerings are in the tower room at the entrance to the church and in the parish office. More information is available from Alice Cotten at acotten@email.unc.edu or (call office for number).
