Announcements

Rector's Letter copies Available

Copies of the Rector's Pentecost letter to the parish about the discernment process concerning gay unions are available in the dining room and in the back of the chapel. Also available (as mentioned in the letter) are copies of his booklet from the series two years ago, "Pastoral Reflections." It may also be accessed online at www.thechapelofthecross.org/2005/PastoralReflections.pdf.

Counters Needed

Each Monday morning a group of parishioners meets to count and deposit all money received by the parish during the prior week. We need additional people for this important committee. The group meets at 8:30 each Monday and is usually finished by 11:00. If you would be interested in providing this service to the parish please call the parish accountant Debby Kulik at 929-2193.

Youth Help Needed

We need youth who are presently finishing 6th grade and older to help with Vacation Church School the week of July 23-27 from 9 am to 12 pm! If you or one of your children falls into this category and you are available, please contact Gretchen Jordan at 929-2193 as soon as possible.

Graduate and Professional Students

If you are interested in fellowship with fellow Episcopalians, join us weekly for "Fridays on the Front Porch" at the Carolina Inn. The festivities are every Friday during the summer and include bluegrass music and food! We meet at the church at 4:45 and head over to the Carolina Inn (the corner of Columbia and Cameron Streets). We also schedule a variety of other activities. If you would like to stay updated on what we are doing, join our Facebook group, UNC Episcopal Grad and Professional Students, or join our listserv, egp@listserv.unc.edu. You may also contact John Derrick at jderricknc@aol.com or Jimmy Satterwhite at jimmysa@alumni.unc.edu.

Loaves and Fishes Guild

The Loaves and Fishes Guild invites you to become a part of parish hospitality. The Guild offers refreshment in a variety of settings, including Sunday morning coffee and parish dinners and receptions. This is an easy and enjoyable way to serve your fellow parishioners and to offer welcome to visitors and parishioners. You will have the fun and camaraderie of working together and the satisfaction of knowing you have performed a vital service for the church. If you would like to help or if you have any questions please call Liska Lackey at (call office for number) or e-mail liska.lackey@gmail.com.

Triangle Reading Service

TRS is a private, non profit organization that provides live audio news and information for visually impaired, elderly and others who are unable to read printed material. Local and national newspapers and magazines, short stories and other information is read by volunteers and transmitted on a receiver loaned out by TRS. The Chapel of the Cross has a transmitter donated to our loan closet. If you know someone who could use it, please contact Peggy Pratt at (call office for number) or pegpratt@nc.rr.com. Brochures on TRS are available on the rack in the dining room. They can be contacted directly at 832-5138. The Good Samaritan Guild operates a loan closet with medical equipment such as wheelchairs, shower seats, walkers etc. If you are in need, please contact the church office.

A Message from the Rector

I am sorry to tell you that Anne Fleming, earlier announced as the new Parish Administrator starting in July, has now had to withdraw her acceptance of the position due to personal circumstances. But I am very happy to tell you that I have now offered the position to Mary Anne Handy, Parish Administrative Assistant the last several years, and she has accepted! Of the 14 original applicants, the Personnel Committee highly recommended only these two candidates, and I look forward to Mary Anne's new role among us, effective immediately.

Preschool Opening

Preschool at the Chapel of the Cross has a Monday through Friday opening for the 2007-2008 school year for a 4 year old girl, beginning August 6, 2007. She must turn 4 years old by October 16, 2007. Call for Casseroles and Soups

The Good Samaritan Guild needs to replenish its supply of frozen meals and soups for parishioners in need. Containers with recipes are available in the dining room this morning. Please take one and return it at your convenience. Feel free to make one of your own recipes instead. Please use smaller sized containers, label the ingredients, and date it. If you have containers in good condition that Good Sams could reuse please put them in a bag, mark it "Good Sams" and leave it in the parish office.

Habitat Help

The Chapel of the Cross/UNC-Student Partnership has received a request from Don Click at Orange County Habitat for Humanity asking if we would help furnish our latest Partnership home. The home owner, Barbara Hopkins, has extensive furniture needs for her home on Purefoy Drive. She needs a bunk bed set, a double bed, two dressers, and living room furniture. Interested parishioners may contact Don Click at (call office for number).
