King's Cake Carol Sing
Today, there will be an intergenerational Church School program in the dining room between the 9:00 and 11:15 services. King's Cake and beverages will be served in the parlor. Several parish musicians will play their instruments leading us in a final singing of some of our favorite carols. There will be no other Church School classes held and no adult education. We return to the regular schedule on Jan. 13.
Vestry Nominations
The nomination period for election of vestry members begins today and closes at 6:30 pm on Jan. 13. You may pick up a nomination form and review a list of eligible parishioners in the dining room and tower room. There is a box in the dining room in which you may place your nominations. Those who nominate parishioners should secure permission of the nominee before making the nomination. Nominators are also responsible for asking the nominee to complete a biographical questionnaire by the close of the nomination period.
Church School
Church School is offered most Sundays, September through mid-May for 2 year olds through adults. The classes and their locations are posted around the building and on the bulletin boards in the dining room. Church School is from 10:20 am to 11:05 am. Registration forms are available for parents of children and youth to complete. New students are welcome at any time during the year.
12:30 Social Hour
You are invited each week following the 11:15 Sunday morning service to enjoy food, fellowship and a hearty welcome to the Chapel of the Cross with old-timers and newcomers alike. Heavy hors d'oeuvres and light refreshment are provided by volunteers and the Social Hour NEEDS YOU. Volunteers are needed to bring food to share. Food should be ready to serve. Food suggestions include such savory and sweet items as: cheese & crackers; chips & dip; crudite platter; sandwiches; fruit; cakes; cookies; light liquid refreshment is also welcome. Please sign up for a week to be a food provider on the calendar posted in the kitchen. LABEL your food with 12:30 SOCIAL HOUR, mark it with the date and deliver your food to the kitchen just before the 11:15 Sunday morning service.

Announcements
Lenten Program Registration
Lent begins on Feb. 6. There will be three special programs for adults which require registration: a four-part series on Mondays from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm with theologian, Dr. Marcia Mount Shoop, entitled "Christological Highs and Lows: A Theological Exploration of the Christology in the Gospel of John" beginning on Feb. 11; a six-week Christian yoga class with instructor Linda Frank on Mondays from 10:30 am -11:30 am beginning Feb. 11; and the option of one of four lectio divina prayer groups using passages unique to John's gospel. These days and times are Sunday mornings during Ad Ed, Tuesdays from 12:30-1:30; Wednesdays from 9:00-10:00 am and Wednesday afternoons from 4:15-5:15. Registration forms are available in the dining room and parish offices or you may simply sign up on the appropriate sheets posted on the Ad Ed bulletin board in the dining room.
New Dinner Groups
If you were unable to sign up for a Foyer Dinner Group or Dinners for Eight in the fall and would like to be part of a group now, please pick up a form in the parish hall or online at www.thechapelofthecross.org/fellowship/dinnersforeight.html. Foyer Dinner Groups meet about once a month. Dinners are casual, cooking is shared and the 10 participants take turns hosting the meals. Dinners for Eight are specifically for singles and couples in their 20's and 30's. They follow the same format as Foyer Groups but are smaller (8 participants instead of 10). Contact Amelia Carew (call office for number) or Sandy Gerow (call office for number) if you have questions about Foyer Dinners and David Frazelle at 929-2193, dfrazelle@thechapelofthecross.org, with questions about Dinners for Eight. Completed forms for both groups should be in the parish office by Jan. 27.
Stock Gift Procedures
From time to time, it may be advantageous to make gifts to the Chapel of the Cross in the form of appreciated securities. The normal procedure for making these gifts is to ask your broker to transfer them electronically to the Chapel of the Cross brokerage account at Edward Jones, account number (call office), DTC number (call office), and to notify the parish accountant, Debby Kulik, that such a transfer has been made, with instructions as to the use (2008 pledge, capital gift, etc.) of the gift. More detail is on the parish web site at www.thechapelofthecross.org/administration/DonatingStock.html.
Annual Giving News
We have received 492 pledges for a total of $1,180,880 to date. Thanks to all who have pledged. This is 43 fewer pledges than we had received by this date last year. The Annual Giving Committee will reach out in the new year to ask those who have not yet made their commitment to support the good works that we are called to carry out in 2008.
2008 Offering Envelopes Available
Offering envelopes for those who requested them when making their pledge for 2008 are available in the dining room. There are separate groups of weekly and monthly envelopes sorted by envelope number. Weekly envelopes are packaged in boxes and monthly envelopes are packaged in a single slightly larger envelope. A listing, arranged alphabetically by last name, is available with each group so that you can look up your envelope number if you do not know it. Anyone who requested the same type of envelope (weekly or monthly) as they used in 2007 should have envelopes with the same number for 2008. If you changed types of envelopes or did not pledge in 2007, an envelope number has been assigned to you and you can find it in the listings provided. If you cannot find your envelopes among those in the dining room, one of several things has occurred.
1. We have not yet received your pledge for 2008. Pledge forms are available in the pews or pledges may be made online at www.thechapelofthecross.org/.
2. We have received your pledge, but you did not indicate that you wanted envelopes or you indicated that you intend to have your pledge payments deducted directly from your bank account.
3. You or someone else in your family has already picked up your envelopes.
4. We have made a mistake in preparing the envelopes for distribution. In this case, please contact the parish office (929-2193) and speak to or leave a message for Debby Kulik, the parish accountant, or Barney Varner, the senior associate treasurer.
Mission Trip to Honduras
Join the mission team going to San Patricio May 19-27, 2008. Forms can also be found online at our website and on the back page of the Dec. Cross Roads. Our work at San Patricio will include light construction, sewing and handicrafts classes, acolyte training, Vacation Church School, and micro-business assistance. No proficiency in Spanish is required, just hearts and hands ready to seek and serve Christ in all people. Applications must be returned to the parish office by Feb. 1, 2008.
