Today

Compline tonight at 9:30 pm

"Set your minds on the things that are above, where Christ is." The ancient monastic service of Compline, the "completion" of the day, is offered in our church every Sunday evening during the university semester at 9:30 pm. An organ improvisation follows the 25-minute service. Come join us and put all of your comings and goings, your beginnings and endings, and everything in-between into the loving hands of God.

Church School

Church School is offered most Sundays, September through mid-May for two year-olds through adults. The classes and their locations are posted around the building and on the bulletin boards in the dining room. Church School is from 10:20 am to 11:05 am. Registration forms are available for parents of children and youth to complete. New students are welcome at any time during the year.

12:30 Social Hour

You are invited each week following the 11:15 Sunday morning service to enjoy food, fellowship and a hearty welcome to the Chapel of the Cross with old-timers and newcomers alike. Heavy hors d'oeuvres and light refreshment are provided by volunteers and the Social Hour NEEDS YOU. Volunteers are needed to bring food to share. Food should be ready to serve. Food suggestions include such savory and sweet items as: cheese & crackers; chips & dip; crudite platter; sandwiches; fruit; cakes; cookies; light liquid refreshment is also welcome. Please sign up for a week to be a food provider on the calendar posted in the kitchen. LABEL your food with 12:30 SOCIAL HOUR, mark it with the date and deliver your food to the kitchen just before the 11:15 Sunday morning service.

Global Missions

On Monday, Jan. 28, come for a light supper and information about a partnership in Botswana and a possible dental project in Honduras. Supper begins at 6. Contact Martha Dill at m.dill@earthlink.net. Applications for the mission team going to San Patricio in May are due by Feb. 1.

Men's Prayer Breakfast

The Men's Prayer Breakfast will meet Wednesday, Jan. 30, at 7:30 am in the chapel. We will begin the year with a time of prayer. We will have an opportunity to offer thanksgiving, intercession and petition to the Lord. It is a chance to enhance our corporate worship as we unite ourselves with others to acknowledge the holiness of God, to offer prayer and celebrate the Spirit's presence. After prayer our breakfast cook is Jimmy Satterwhite. Please join us!

Undergraduates are invited to be a part of Episcopal Campus Ministry which meets every Tuesday night during the academic year. Join us for dinner and fellowship this Tuesday at 5:30 pm in our Campus Center. This Tuesday, Jan. 29, we will enjoy DeSaix bread. We look forward to seeing you all soon!

Small Ways to Help

The Chapel of the Cross's 46th annual Attic, Basement, Closet (ABC) Sale will soon be upon us! The sale date is Saturday, April 12. We need of a little presale help. We need gardeners to grow plants for the garden shop, shoppers to save paper handled bags, a large tent for sale day, and a donation of a storage space for sale items in Feb. and March. We are also in need of a few financial sponsors. We need to fund a Treasured Affair cocktail event ($300), purchase a cake for the volunteer luncheon ($100), purchase reusable advertising signs ($300), and purchase reusable department chair aprons ($200). We would also appreciate the donation or sponsorship of a tent for the White Elephant department. If you are able to help us with this important charity fund-raiser in any of these ways, please contact the sale coordinators, Mindy Morton (mortons04@nc.rr.com or (call office for number)) or Heather Benjamin (habenjam@bellsouth.net or (call office for number)).

Stewardship Opportunities

IFC Needs & News

Current IFC Food Pantry needs are as follows: canned meat, vegetables, beans, soup, and fruit; dried beans; peanut butter; rice; pasta; and cereal. Baskets for our food offerings are in the tower entrance of the church and in the parish office, or food may be taken directly to the IFC Food Pantry at 110 West Main St. in Carrboro. For volunteer needs of the IFC as well as other information, visit the web site at www.ifcweb.org. Community response, including that of our parish, enabled the IFC to more than match their $25,000 challenge grant by the end of 2007, allowing Community House to resume operations around the clock, every day. Thank you for contributions toward this effort, one of our parish's alternative gift choices this past Christmas.

Continued Needs for Our Refugees

Many thanks to those who have responded to our needs listed in last week's bulletin. Several have given Po Loe ironing opportunities, and  one family is taking the children to  the Museum of Life and Science. Scouting opportunities have also been offered. We still need the following: core team workers to take family to appointments; tutors, college student age and up to work with the school-aged children twice a week; a person to teach them how to take the bus to the Carrboro Community Health Center and to their ESL classes at Hargraves Community Center; work opportunities for the mother and father - yard work, ironing, sewing, housework; social opportunities/outings for the two high school students. For more information, please contact Barbara Tremblay (call office for number) or  Gale Gilchrist (call office for number)
