Today
Junior Choir Concert
The Junior Choir will present a Sacred Concert (aka "The Junior Choir’s Greatest Hits") today at 7:00 pm. The program will be a varied selection of the more than 40 anthems they have presented in worship over the course of the school year, as well as the ever-popular medley of tunes from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat - a decidedly non-liturgical work. The concert will be followed by a reception in honor of the members of the Junior Choir.
Parents Of Church School Children, Take Note!
Today is the last day of church school for the year. The summer service schedule begins in two weeks, on June 1. Vacation Church School will be held June 23-27, 9:00 am - 12:00 noon. There are only a few spaces left in VCS. For more information, contact Boykin Bell at bbell@thechapelofthecross.org or 929-2193 ext. 37.
Don’t Forget The Thompson’s Child & Family Focus Summer Clothing Drive!
Our annual summer clothing drive is going on now. Please take a minute to stop by the table in the dining room and select a few items to purchase for this year’s event. You can return the clothing, unwrapped, to the parish office anytime between now and Sunday, June 8. Monetary donations and gift cards to area department stores are also most welcomed. For more information, please call Susan Thomason, 998-7188 or Dina Urquhart, 967-0803. Thank you for your support!
The Face Of Christ: The Imprisoned
This year, about 250 Orange County inmates will be discharged from the North Carolina Department of Corrections (DOC). Because of inadequate funding, the DOC will provide little education, rehabilitation or addiction management services to these citizens. Please join Chaplain Ken Barker and parishioner Terry Johnston in the chapel today to learn how they help these prisoners prepare for freedom.
Episcopal Youth Community
EYC will meet tonight at 6:00 PM in the basement for a potluck. Please bring a dish to share! Following dinner we will move to the church to support the Junior Choir in their annual Concert! Don’t miss it! As always - ALL 6th through 12th graders are invited to attend! Please contact cparker@thechapelofthecross.org with any questions.
This Week
Special Worship With People With Developmental Disabilities
Don’t forget about Special Worship tomorrow at 7:00 pm in the church. This monthly service of worship, songs, and stories especially for our neighbors and friends with developmental disabilities happens on the third Monday of each month and all are welcome!
Next Week
In Memoriam: The Poetry Of War
In recognition of Memorial Day, parishioner Ray Dooley, professor of Dramatic Arts at UNC and an actor with Playmakers Repertory Company, will read from selected works that touch on the subject of war. Please join us for this reading next Sunday in the chapel.
Announcements
Thank You, Linda Everhart
The Cantus Choir sang for the last time this spring at the 9:00 service last Sunday. Parishioner Linda Everhart has directed this talented group of first and second graders for the past six years, working tirelessly and imaginatively as a volunteer on behalf of our children. She has created a well-organized and highly sophisticated program combining musical and liturgical education and Christian formation. Her goal has been to help each child find his or her voice and develop a life-long love of singing. The results are obvious in the energy and beauty of their offerings on Sunday mornings. We are especially pleased that a significant number of well-trained and enthusiastic rising third-graders will be joining the Junior Choir in the fall. We are very grateful to Linda for the consistent excellence she has poured into this important work over these six years, and will miss her direction of our children in their first important venture in singing. We are grateful that she and her husband Craig will remain active in the Senior Choir and in many other aspects of our parish life.
Parish Freezer
Thank you to the many who kindly prepared nutritious soups and casseroles to be distributed to parishioners in need. We now have a good supply and variety of foods. If you planned to make something and hadn’t yet, consider holding off for a few months when we will again want to add items. If you or someone in the parish you know could use some prepared food to tuck in your freezer or pop in the oven, please contact the office. They will alert the Good Samaritan coordinator. Thank you for your responsiveness and willingness to help.
Request From Jr. Girl Scout Troop 378
Jr. Girl Scout Troop 378 is collecting personal hygiene items for the teenagers at the Oxford Children’s Orphanage. There will be a collection box near the IFC donation bins in the back of the church where you can put these items if you wish.
Boy Scout Troop 9 Honors
Parish sponsored Boy Scout Troop 9 earned best overall troop at the recent Orange County District Jamboree - for the third year in a row! The scouts earned points for participation in various events, running demonstrations for younger Cub Scouts, and for their camping skills. Troop 9 is a smaller troop relative to the district and this award shows the high quality of the program. Please congratulate the scouts and the leaders. Troop 9 meets on Tuesdays at 7:30 pm. For more information visit www.t9ch.org or contact Gregg Gerdau, Scoutmaster, at gregg@gdgerdau.com.

Stewardship Opportunities
Episcopal Relief And Development (ERD)
We all know of the truly devasting cyclone that struck Myanmar (Burma) and the equally devastating earthquake in China. Because of the difficulties getting aid workers into Myanmar, ERD is relying on its partners on the ground, the Anglican Church of the Province of Myanmar (CPM) and the Myanmar Council of Churches, to assess needs and resources as well as to distribute food aid provided by ERD. In China, heavy rain, power outages and impassable roads have slowed rescue work. ERD’s partner in China, the Amity Foundation, an independent Chinese Christian voluntary organization, has deployed staff and is coordinating efforts with local partners. With ERD support, it has distributed rice, bedding and sheltering material. The immediate need is for cash so that ERD and its partners will have the resources to purchase and distribute aid to the people affected. Donations can be made in many ways. Give online to ERD’s "Emergency Relief Fund" at www.er-d.org. Call 1-800-334-7626, ext. 5129. Mail gifts to: Episcopal Relief and Development "Emergency Relief Fund" P.O. Box 7058, Merrifield, VA 22116-7058.
Sponsors Needed For Our Refugee Students
Tin Tin Win and Sein Lah, our two high schoolers, have an opportunity to visit Williamsburg VA with their chorus where they will perform. They each need to raise a sum of $30 - $130 dollars for this trip. This would be a very wonderful opportunity for them to travel with this group, perform, and see a bit of Williamsburg. We are looking for sponsors for them or to provide work for them to pay their way. Sein Lah is great doing yard work. Tin Tin Win can do ironing. Please consider helping them reach their goal by mid-May. Contact Barbara Tremblay (call office for number) or Gale Gilchrist (call office for number) for more information.
Community Notes
Bible Study and Hymn Sing at Stratford Assisted Living
Looking for a lively devotional experience during the week? Thursdays at 10:30 am a group of twenty or so residents at Stratford Assisted Living gather for prayer, Bible study, and songs. This group began at the instigation of a parishioner who at the time was a resident at the Stratford. Though no longer there, she returns weekly with Vicky Jamieson-Drake for prayers, a short reflection on scripture, and singing of folk hymns accompanied by guitar. Call or email Vicky at vjd@thechapelofthecross.org or 929-2193 if you’re interested in assisting with this ministry.
Breast Cancer Support Group
Project Compassion is forming a support team to help with the needs of a relative of a parishioner being treated for breast cancer. No contribution of time is too small. For more information please contact Sonja Norris at Project Compassion at 402-1844 or Vicky Jamieson-Drake 929-2193.
