The Furniture Project

A community-wide all volunteer charitable outreach, the ecumenical project collects gently used furniture, provides a Tax Donation Receipt, and delivers to the family in need that has been referred by an advocate.
Over 2000 donors have helped since May 2012. Permanent residences have been partly or fully furnished for over 1075 families and individuals who have been referred from many service organizations such as:                                            

VA (Veterans Administration)

DSS Child Protective Services

UNC Horizons

Freedom House

UNC COMPASS (Domestic Violence Victims)

CEF (Community Empowerment Fund)

Catholic Charities

IFC Men’s and Women’s Shelters

Social Workers in School Systems of CH-Carrboro and Orange County

  • Many employees at local Universities and Hospitals are marginalized and need help.
  • Domestic violence victims, disabled veterans, homeless families have received emergency furniture.
  • Since inception over 750 children sleeping on floors have been given bed!

What is needed?

  • Bed frames – queen, double, twin
    • Bedding – sheets, blankets, bedspreads, comforters, mattress pads
    • Bedroom furniture – dressers, nightstands
    • Couches, loveseats, arm chairs, recliners
    • Coffee tables and end tables
    • Lamps – floor lamps or table lamps
    • Kitchen and small dining room tables and chairs
    • TV stands
    • Small appliances – microwaves,
    • Pillows – NEW only
    • clean, unstained, newer mattresses
      (No king sized)
