Advent Giving, formerly The Giving Tree, is a project to assist those in need in our community. We are enabling those who wish to shop remotely, two Target registries, with shipment made directly to either UNC Horizons or Orange County Social Services. Also, lists are provided for those who wish to shop “in person” and deliver the gifts to the pew in the church Library.

We will be helping two community agencies this year.

UNC Horizons
The UNC Horizons Program is a substance-use treatment program for pregnant and/or parenting women and their children, including those whose lives have been touched by abuse and violence. It is a program of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at UNC-Chapel Hill. These young moms appreciate being able to choose from the donations we provide to select gifts for their children and themselves. Of note, multiple copies of journals were requested for the women to collect ideas on their recovery process.

Orange County Social Services
Orange County Social Services will hold the annual holiday toy chest program to provide gifts for low-income children birth through 18. More families than ever are requesting help with gifts during this difficult time. To be eligible for the Orange County Toy Chest, the family must be an Orange County resident, currently receive SNAP (food stamps), Medicaid or Healthchoice benefits. This year, we hope to focus on children 6-12.

Items requested for children 6-12 and include: arts and crafts, dolls, lotion/nails/body wash, purses/backpacks, board and card games,
