August 22 | Hargraves Community Center

On Saturday, August 22, parishioners can join in with the town of Chapel Hill and other community organizations in helping host the Family Fun Day and Bookbag Giveaway at Hargraves Community Center.  This annual event provides not only bookbags and school supplies for local students, but also a lot of fun for the whole family with free entertainment, games, food, hair braiding and care; as well as dental and medical services. 

This year’s event is particularly poignant in that it is the first without Andre Boynton, who died in a car accident this year.  Boynton was an essential figure in Hargraves community life and the bookbag giveaway and this year the event is called “Dre’s Way Bookbag Giveaway” in his honor. 

The Chapel of the Cross is joining in this event as a community partner by supplying some of the supplies for the drive, but we need your help to make the drive a success.  Volunteers can help leading up to the sale in packing bookbags, and on the day of the sale with various logistics.  A specific need is for translators in Spanish and Mandarin.  You can sign up to participate in this year’s bookbag giveaway here, and email Jeff Crawford here with any questions.
