Sunday Morning Child Care

Our nursery is located on the first floor overlooking the Coker Arboretum. (Walk past the Welcome Desk and Parish Hall and turn left.) It is open most Sundays from 8:45 – 11:15 am. (During the summer, the nursery is open from 9:45 am – 11:45.) Please complete an Information Card (available below and in the nursery) before leaving a child in our care.

Our Sunday Morning Childcare Coordinator is Elizabeth Smith. Elizabeth is originally from Charlotte but fell in love with the Chapel Hill area after beginning her undergraduate studies here at UNC. Majoring in Political Science and minoring in Social and Economic Justice and Women and Gender Studies, Elizabeth graduated in 2025 but will return to campus when she begins a Master of Social Work degree at UNC in the fall of 2026. Elizabeth has a deep passion for youth advocacy and educational reform that she plans to carry into her future career. In the meantime, she’ll be working approximately 6 hours a week at the Chapel of the Cross, supervising Sunday morning childcare workers and working directly with children in the nursery, Children’s Chapel and church school classes. Elizabeth lives in Chapel Hill with her husband; they enjoy kayaking, camping, and exploring a local parks.

Najaia Parker, Phoebe Craft and Christine Georgiou care for children in the nursery and in Children’s Chapel and Church School, depending on the needs of the week.

In Children’s Chapel and in church school classes, you’ll find Nora Decker, Avery Adams and Ada Wiltberger. Nora and Ada are both students at UNC-Chapel Hill. Avery is a pre-nursing student at ECU.

During the program (school) year, Children’s Chapel gathers on Sundays at 8:45 AM on the playground* before processing to the historic chapel at a little past 9:00 AM. (We gather at 9:45 and the service begins at 10:00 AM in the summer. The summer schedule begins on May 10, 2026.) Families are welcome to worship together in either Children’s Chapel or the church service. Children may also be left in the care of our Children’s Chapel childcare providers. Please complete an information card or a church school registration form before leaving your child in our care, and please always sign your child(ren) in and out with a member of our staff.

* In rainy or cold weather (below 40 degrees), we’ll gather in the Chapel.

Virtual children’s services and other videos are available at cotcchildandfam.org. For more information, contact Boykin Bell at bbell@thechapelofthecross.org.
